  1. 1. Bose-Einstein Condensation of Magnetic Excitons in Semiconductor Quantum Wells

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Vitalie Boţan; Lars Nordström; Sveatoslav Moskalenko; Pavlos Lagoudakis; [2006]
    Keywords : Physics; Bose-Einstein condensation; magnetic excitons; electron-hole pairs; electron-hole liquid; magnetorotons; magnetoplasmons; superfluidity; Fysik;

    Abstract : In this thesis regimes of quantum degeneracy of electrons and holes in semiconductor quantum wells in a strong magnetic field are studied theoretically. The coherent pairing of electrons and holes results in the formation of Bose-Einstein condensate of magnetic excitons in a single-particle state with wave vector K. READ MORE

  2. 2. Experimental and Numerical Investigations of Ultra-Cold Atoms

    University dissertation from Umeå : Fysik

    Author : Magnus Rehn; Anders Kastberg; Claude Dion; Matti Kaivola; [2007]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ultracold atoms; optical lattices; Bose-Einstein condensation; quantum phase transitions; NATURAL SCIENCES Physics; NATURVETENSKAP Fysik;

    Abstract : I have been one of the main responsible for building a new laboratory for Bose-Einstein condensation with 87Rb. In particular, the experimental setup has been designed for performing experiments with Bose-Einstein condensates load into optical lattices of variable geometries.All parts essential for Bose-Einstein condensation are in place. 3. 3. Ultracold rubidium atoms in periodic potentials

    University dissertation from Umeå : Fysik

    Author : Robert Saers; Anders Kastberg; Svante Jonsell; Jan W. Thomsen; [2008]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Bose-Einstein condensation; optical lattice; quantum phase transition; experiment; theory; NATURAL SCIENCES Physics Condensed matter physics; NATURVETENSKAP Fysik Kondenserade materiens fysik;

    Abstract : This thesis includes both experimental and theoretical investigations, presented in a series of eight papers. The experimental part ranges from the construction procedures of an apparatus for Bose-Einstein condensates, to full scale experiments using three different set-ups for ultracold atoms in optical lattices. 4. 4. Aspects of Wave Interaction in Nonlinear Media

    University dissertation from Umeå : Fysik

    Author : Björn Hall; [2005]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; nonlinear Schrödinger equation; incoherent solitons; partial incoherence; nonlinear wave interaction; Gross-Pitaevskii equation; modulational instability; collective dynamics; Wigner transform; nonlinear guided waves; Bose-Einstein condensation;

    Abstract : Selected aspects of various types of nonlinear wave interaction are investigated. These aspects are studied in terms of models described by Nonlinear Schrödinger equations, mainly analytically and numerically, but also experimentally. READ MORE

  5. 5. Quantum Few-Body Physics with the Configuration Interaction Approach: Method Development and Application to Physical Systems

    University dissertation from Umeå : Fysik

    Author : Jonas Cremon; [2010]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Tonks-Girardeau gas; vortices; Bose-Einstein condensation; quantum many-particle physics; quantum few-particle physics; Lee-Suzuki approximation; configuration interaction method; Wigner localization; quantum dots; ultra-cold gases; Fysicumarkivet A:2010:Cremon;

    Abstract : This dissertation, based on six included papers, theoretically investigates properties of quantum few-particle systems. An overview of related experimental research - ultra-cold trapped dilute gases, and electrons in quantum dots - is given, followed by a description of some of the studied many-particle phenomena - Bose-Einstein condensation, quantized vortices, Wigner localization and the Tonks-Girardeau gas.
