1. Pathophysiology of blood-brain barrier, brain edema and cell injury following hyperthermia : New role of heat shock protein, nitric oxide and carbon monoxide : an experimental study in rat using light and electron microscopy
Abstract : This thesis deals with the molecular mechanisms of hyperthermia induced brain damage in rats. The results clearly establish that hyperthermia caused by 4 h heat stress at 38° C is associated with a breakdown of the blood-brain barrier (BBB) permeability which seems to be instrumental in causing brain edema and cell injury. 2. Ultra wideband microwave hyperthermia for brain cancer treatment
Abstract : Despite numerous clinical trials demonstrating that microwave hyperthermia is a powerful adjuvant modality in the treatment of cancers, there have been few instances where this method has been applied to brain tumors. The reason is a combination of anatomical and physiological factors in this site that require an extra degree of accuracy and precision in the thermal dose delivery. READ MORE

3. Towards UWB microwave hyperthermia for brain cancer treatment
Abstract : Despite numerous clinical trials demonstrating that microwave hyperthermia is a powerful adjuvant modality in the treatment of cancers, there have been few instances where this method has been applied to brain tumors. The reason is a combination of anatomical and physiological factors in this site that require an extra degree of accuracy and control in the thermal dose delivery which current systems are not able to provide. 4. Quality systems to avoid secondary brain injury in neurointensive care
Abstract : Outcome after traumatic brain injury (TBI) depends on the extent of primary cell death and on the development of secondary brain injury. The general aim of this thesis was to find strategies and quality systems to minimize the extent of secondary insults in neurointensive care (NIC). READ MORE

5. Optimizing microwave hyperthermia antenna systems
Abstract : This thesis presents design and optimization of a microwave hyperthermia antenna system for treatment of head and neck cancer as well as brain cancer. Hyperthermia has shown the ability to enhance the performance of radiotherapy and chemotherapy in many clinical trials. READ MORE
