  1. 1. Applications of diffusion MRI: Tensor-valued encoding, time-dependent diffusion, and histological validation

    Author : Jan Brabec; Lund Medicinsk strålningsfysik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; diffusion MRI; meningioma; glioma; brain tumors; intracranial tumors; undulations; restricted diffusion; time dependence; spherical b-tensor encoding; linear b-tensor encoding; histogram analysis; anisotropic kurtosis; isotropic kurtosis; hyperintensity; conspicuity; white matter; detection; diffusion spectrum; consistency; type; grade; axon diameter; axonal trajectories; Fysicumarkivet A:2022:Brabec;

    Abstract : Diffusion MRI (dMRI) sensitizes the MR signal to the diffusion of water molecules at the microscopic level and thereby non-invasively probes tissue microstructure. This is relevant when determining biological properties of tissues, for example, cancer type and its malignancy. READ MORE

  2. 2. A path along deep learning for medical image analysis : With focus on burn wounds and brain tumors

    Author : Marco Domenico Cirillo; Anders Eklund; Veronika Cheplygina; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Deep learning; Medical image analysis; Burn wounds; Brain tumors; Image classification; Image segmentation; Image augmentation; CNNs; GANs;

    Abstract : The number of medical images that clinicians need to review on a daily basis has increased dramatically during the last decades. Since the number of clinicians has not increased as much, it is necessary to develop tools which can help doctors to work more efficiently. READ MORE

  3. 3. MRI at 3 T of brain functions and fibre tracts adjacent to intracranial tumors

    Author : Danielle van Westen; Lund Diagnostisk radiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; medical instrumentation; Klinisk fysiologi; radiologi; tomografi; medicinsk instrumentering; radiology; tomography; Clinical physics; Medicin människa och djur ; Medicine human and vertebrates ; somatosensory cortex; diffusion magnetic resonance imaging; neoplasms; Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging;

    Abstract : The aims of the studies were: to evaluate the spatial resolution of fMRI at 3 T by studying fingersomatotopy in area 3 b of the primary sensory area (Paper 1); to investigate the potential of fMRI at 3T as a clinical tool for preoperative evaluation of patients with intracranial tumors (Paper 2); to investigate the effect of glioma resection on the spatial extent of fMRI activation as compared to the normal within-subject variability (Paper 3); to determine whether the apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) and fractional anisotropy (FA) can distinguish tumor-infiltrated edema of gliomas from pure edema of meningiomas and metastases (Paper 4). Results: Strict somatotopic organisation in the primary sensory cortex was shown in the group average; at the subject level the thumb was located laterally, anteriorly and inferiorly to the little finger in 94 % of subjects (Paper 1). 4. 4. Towards new tools for clinical evaluation and visualization of tumor growth in patients with glioma

    Author : Kenney Roy Roodakker; Anja Smits; Anne-Marie Landtblom; Elna-Marie Larsson; Jan J. Heimans; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : PROX1; Histology; MRI; PET; Epilepsy; Co-registration; Neurology; Neurologi;

    Abstract : Gliomas are derived from glial cells and are the most common type of primary brain tumors in adults. Gliomas are classified by the World Health Organization (WHO) according to their malignancy grade and histological and molecular features. Malignancy grades range from I to IV. WHO grade I tumors are benign tumors, mostly occurring in childhood. READ MORE

  5. 5. Multimodal applications in medical technology that utilize Raman spectroscopy

    Author : Joel Wahl; Kerstin Ramser; Mikael Sjödahl; Thomas Bocklitz; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Raman spectroscopy; Preprocessing; Pulmonary arterial smooth muscle cells; Brain tumors; Experimental Mechanics; Experimentell mekanik;

    Abstract : Biology can often be explained by structures and interactions between molecules. It is therefore of importance for medical sciences that the chemical reactions and molecular compositions of biological samples can be measured. The purpose of this thesis is twofold. READ MORE
