  1. 1. Progenitor cells in the brainstem and filum terminale

    Author : Michael Fagerlund; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : brainstem;

    Abstract : Neurogenesis prevails in the adult mammalian CNS. New neurons are constitutively formed invivo in the subventricular zone (SVZ) of the lateral ventricle wall and in the subgranular zone of the dentate gyrus. READ MORE

  2. 2. IL-6 and GLP-1 in body fat regulating parts of the CNS in healthy mice

    Author : Fredrik Anesten; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; IL-6; IL-6Rα; GLP-1; obesity; hypothalamus; brainstem; tanycytes; immunohistochemistry;

    Abstract : It has previously been shown that mice lacking interleukin-6 (IL-6) develop mature onset obesity. The weight-suppressing effects of IL-6 have been assumed to be exerted at a central level, as supported by the fact that ICV- injections, but not peripheral injections of IL-6, increases energy expenditure and decreases body fat in rodents. 3. 3. Central and Peripheral Neuroendocrine Factors in Cancer-Associated Anorexia and Cachexia

    Author : Jonathan R Burgos; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cancer anorexia-cachexia syndrome; inflammation; TSH receptor; cocaine- and amphetamine-regulated transcript; nesfatin-1; CRH; hypothalamus; brainstem; MCG101;

    Abstract : Cancer anorexia-cachexia syndrome (CACS) develops in response to tumor-host biochemical interactions. A loss of appetite (anorexia) and increased metabolism results in a progressive wasting of adipose and skeletal muscle tissues (cachexia). READ MORE

  4. 4. Body fat regulating neuropeptides: relation to interleukines and gut microbiota

    Author : Erik Schéle; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; IL-6; IL-6 receptor a; obesity; hypothalamus; brainstem; immunohistochemistry;

    Abstract : Previous studies have shown that mice lacking interleukin-6 (IL-6), an important cytokine in the immune system, develop obesity, and that central, but not peripheral, administration of IL-6 induces energy expenditure. These findings suggest that IL-6 suppresses fat mass through the central nervous system. READ MORE

  5. 5. Central projections of sensory innervation of cranial vessels

    Author : Yi Liu; Lund Medicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neurologi; Spinothalamic; Neurology; neuropsychology; neurophysiology; Neural tracing; trigeminal nerve; Headache; Cranial vessel; Brainstem; neuropsykologi; neurofysiologi;

    Abstract : Primary headaches (e.g. migraine and cluster headache), the symptoms of which is associated with cranial vascular activity, is likely to be dependent on a primary central nervous system dysfunction. READ MORE
