  1. 1. Small breast cancers : Diagnosis, prognostic factors and clinical outcome in a screening population

    Author : Lars-Gunnar Arnesson; Karl von Smitten; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : Breast neoplasm; diagnostic; treatment; pathology; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Breast cancer ≤ 10 mm together with ductal in situ cancer of the breast (DCIS) today constitute more than 40% of screening detected breast malignancies. Prognostic factors, diagnosis and clinical outcome for invasive breast cancers ≤ 10 mm and local recurrence in DCIS were evaluated. READ MORE

  2. 2. Life Style, Molecular Pathology, and Breast Cancer Risk

    Author : Signe Borgquist; Malmö Handkirurgi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; hormone receptors; Breast cancer; tissue microarray; histopathology; ERβ; tumour proliferation; cyclin D1; p27; HMG-CoA reductas; life style factors; diet; hormone replacement therapy; obesity; endocrine therapy;

    Abstract : The breast cancer diagnosis covers a wide range of tumours with different geno- and phenotypic characteristics. The diversity among studies on life-style factors and their impact on breast cancer risk might be clarified by recognizing breast cancer as a heterogeneous disease. READ MORE

  3. 3. Wnt-5a signaling in breast cancer metastasis

    Author : Annette Säfholm; Malmö Experimentell patologi; []

    Abstract : Breast cancer is the most common form of malignancy affecting women in the Western world. Today, anticancer treatment can control primary breast tumors, but treatment and prevention of metastatic disease still represents a major challenge in the management of breast cancer patients. Abstract : Breast cancer is one of the most common cancer forms in the industrialized world. Only in Sweden, nearly 6000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer each year and 1/3 of them eventually succumb to the disease. READ MORE

  5. 5. Improving biomarker assessment in breast pathology

    Author : Stephanie Robertson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The accuracy of prognostic and therapy-predictive biomarker assessment in breast tumours is crucial for management and therapy decision in patients with breast cancer. In this thesis, biomarkers used in clinical practice with emphasise on Ki67 and HER2 were studied using several methods including immunocytochemistry, in situ hybridisation, gene expression assays and digital image analysis, with the overall aim to improve routine biomarker evaluation and clarify the prognostic potential in early breast cancer.
