  1. 21. On the Formation and Physical Behaviour of Exhaled Particles

    Author : Helene Holmgren; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; breath hold; size distribution; deposition; relative humidity; tidal breathing; exhaled particles; airway closure; film droplet;

    Abstract : Aerosol particles are generated in human airways and leave the body with exhaled air. The particles originate from the respiratory tract and contain non-volatile compoundsthat potentially may be used as biomarkers for various medical conditions. To utilise any information provided by the particles, they must be characterised. READ MORE

  2. 22. Development of allergic and respiratory symptoms in adolescence and early adulthood : Risk factors and gender differences

    Abstract : Background: Asthma and allergic diseases have increased in prevalence for several decades and affect a substantial number of individuals in everyday life, as well as their families and public healthcare resources. Subjects with asthma report impaired self-rated health. READ MORE

  3. 23. Improved breath alcohol analysis with use of carbon dioxide as the tracer gas

    Author : Annika Kaisdotter Andersson; Mikael Ekström; Bertil Hök; Göran Hedenstierna; Johannes Lagois; Mälardalens högskola; []
    Keywords : elektronik; Electronics;

    Abstract : State-of-the-art breath analysers require a prolonged expiration into a mouthpiece to obtain the accuracy required for evidential testing and screening of the alcohol concentration. This requirement is unsuitable for breath analysers used as alcolock owing to their frequent use and the fact that the majority of users are sober drivers; as well as for breath testing in uncooperative persons. 4. 24. Source-specific volatile organic compounds in human breath, wood smoke and biogas

    Author : Susan Björkqvist; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; VOC; cymene; furans; methane; SBS; isoprene; limonene;

    Abstract : Volatile biogenic compounds are often overlooked in air quality studies. This work deals with the analysis of specific organic compounds of biogenic origin and with their sources. General aspects of indoor air chemistry and measurements of volatile organic compounds in indoor air are also discussed. READ MORE

  5. 25. Evaluations of measurement techniques in functional dyspepsia : electrogastrography, satiety drinking test and 14C-urea breath test

    Author : Shahab Abid; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : functional dyspepsia; electrogastrography; 14C urea breath test; satiety drinking test;

    Abstract : The overall aim of this thesis was to evaluate the clinical usefulness of certain measurement techniques that may be helpful in the understanding of functional dyspepsia (FD). Electrogastrography (EGG) parameters were evaluated and found unable to discriminate one specific motility disorder from other motility disorders of the gut. READ MORE
