1. Viperin vs. tick-borne encephalitis virus : mechanism of a potent antiviral protein
Abstract : Tick-borne encephalitis virus (TBEV) is a very important virus medically, causing mild or severe encephalitis often with long-lasting sequelae. Treatment of tick-borne encephalitis is limited to supportive care, and antiviral drugs are much needed. The type-I interferon (IFN) system is the first line of host defense against many viruses. 2. On the Biosynthesis and Processing of Cathepsin G, Leukocyte Elastase, and Azurocidin neutrophil granule members of a hematopoietic serine protease superfamily
Abstract : The serine proteases cathepsin G, leukocyte elastase, proteinase 3, and the inactive protease homologue azurocidin, stored in the azurophil granules of neutrophils, belong to a hematopoietic serine protease superfamily with members in mature effector cells of bone marrow origin. Promonocytic U-937 cells were used for studying the biosynthesis of cathepsin G and leukocyte elastase by biosynthetic radiolabelling. READ MORE

3. Involvement of Heparan Sulphate Biosynthesis and Turnover in Cell Proliferation. A Novel Role for Nitric Oxide in Recycling of Heparan Sulphate Proteoglycans
Abstract : The present investigation focuses on the role of HS metabolism in cell proliferation. The effect of the HS priming ß-D-xyloside, 2-(6-hydroxynaphthyl)-O-ß-D-xylopyranoside (Xyl-2-Nap-6-OH) on the proliferation of normal and transformed cells was studied. READ MORE

4. Studies on the assembly and secretion of apolipoprotein B containing lipoproteins
Abstract : Lipoproteins are water-soluble particles of lipids and proteins, which deliver water-insoluble lipids from intestine or liver to target tissues where the lipids are used as fuel or storage. Lipoproteins consist of a core of hydrophobic lipids surrounded by an amphipatic monolayer of polar lipids and specific proteins, apolipoproteins. READ MORE

5. Folding and retention of rotavirus glycoproteins in the endoplasmic reticulum
Abstract : The endoplasmic reticulum (ER) is a membrane bound organelle composed of a network of cisternae stretching throughout the cytoplasm. Functionally, the ER performs many essential processes, such as glycosylation, and biosynthesis of lipids; it provides a redox potential condition for forming S-S linkages, and a quality control system, and functions as an intracellular calcium store.
