  1. 1. Plasmonic Nanostructures for Molecular Spectroscopy

    Author : Björn Brian; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; SEF; DNA; EBL; Nanoparticles; rhodamine 6G; biosensors; SERS; fluorescence;

    Abstract : This thesis focuses on the fabrication, characterization and utilization of nanostructures for chemical sensing and optical enhancement processes.Noble metal nanostructures can support localized surface plasmon resonances (LSPRs), which amplify the strength of the electromagnetic field close to the structures. 2. 2. Metals in Dynamic Chemistry: Selection & Catalysis

    Author : Brian J.J. Timmer; Olof Ramström; Stéphane Bellemin-Laponnaz; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; constitutional dynamic chemistry; selection; multivalent interactions; carbohydrates; quartz crystal microbalance; catalyst screening; aqueous olefin metathesis; C-H activation; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Abstract : In the adaptation to the oxidative environment on earth, metals played a crucial role for the evolution of life. The presence of metals also allowed access to advanced functions due to their unique coordination sphere and reactivity. READ MORE

  3. 3. Multi-Scale Surface Water-Groundwater Interaction : Implications for GroundwaterDischarge Patterns

    Author : Babak Brian Mojarrad; Anders Wörman; Joakim Riml; Jan Fleckenstein; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; groundwater flow; hyporheic zone; multi-scale modeling; spectral analysis; fragmentation of discharge zones; characteristic parameters; Hydraulik och teknisk hydrologi; Hydraulic and Hydrologic Engineering;

    Abstract : Rivers and aquifers are continuously exchanging water, driven by processes that occur on various temporal and spatial scales, ranging from small streambed features to large geological structures. The interaction between these two components occurs in permeable sediments below the stream channel, called the hyporheic zone. READ MORE

  4. 4. Synthesis and Properties of Colloidal Zeolite

    Author : Brian J. Schoeman; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Several zeolite phases, zeolite N-Y, N-A, ZSM-2, (hydroxy)sodalite and TPA-silicalite- 1, have been synthesized in the form of stable suspensions of discrete colloidal crystals wherein the average particle size is less than 150 nanometers and in certain cases, less than 50 nanometers, with a narrow particle size distribution, PSD. Clear homogeneous tetraalkylammonium (alumino)silicate solutions containing controlled amounts of alkali metal cations are hydrothermally treated at 100 °C without stirring and under reflux. 5. 5. Waring-type problems for polynomials : Algebra meets Geometry

    Author : Alessandro Oneto; Boris Shapiro; Brian Harbourne; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; polynomials; Waring problems; Hilbert series; fat points; power ideals; secant varieties; Mathematics; matematik;

    Abstract : In the present thesis we analyze different types of additive decompositions of homogeneous polynomials. These problems are usually called Waring-type problems and their story go back to the mid-19th century and, recently, they received the attention of a large community of mathematicians and engineers due to several applications.
