  1. 6. A multiscale approach for predicting freeze-thaw damage in asphalt mixtures

    Author : Lisa Lövqvist; Nicole Kringos; Romain Balieu; Markus Oeser; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Byggvetenskap; Civil and Architectural Engineering; Structural Engineering and Bridges; Bro- och stålbyggnad;

    Abstract : Cold and wet climates are a known threat to asphalt pavements, causing both an embrittlement of the material, making it more prone to failure, and increasing the risk of damage due to the presence of moisture in the material and freeze-thaw cycles causing expansion and contraction of the air voids as the moisture inside them freezes and thaws. This damage evolution can lead to an overall decrease of material properties and ultimately showcase itself as raveling, pot holes,and cracks. READ MORE

  2. 7. Human-structure interaction effect on the dynamic response of footbridges : An analytical and experimental study

    Author : Daniel Colmenares; Raid Karoumi; Andreas Andersson; Federica Tubino; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; footbridges; dynamics; human induced loads; human structure interaction.; Bro- och stålbyggnad; Structural Engineering and Bridges;

    Abstract : Lightweight, slender and lightly damped footbridges are often susceptible to HumanInduced Loads (HILs) when pedestrian step frequencies coincide with the naturalfrequencies of the structure. For vertical vibrations, this can compromise the serviceabilitylimit state of the system. READ MORE

  3. 8. Smart pavement maintenance and infrastructure operation through digital twins : Case study for Norvik Port, Sweden

    Author : Julian Dario Rodriguez; Nicole Kringos; Romain Balieu; Plati Christina; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; pavement management; digital twins; finite element model pavement; infrastructure maintenance.; Vägunderhåll; Digitala tvillingar; Ändliga elementmodeller för vägar; Infrastrukturförvaltning; Civil and Architectural Engineering; Byggvetenskap; Bro- och stålbyggnad; Structural Engineering and Bridges;

    Abstract : There is an urgent need to make the way in which people and goods move more sustainable. Though pavements are one of the key components of road transportation networks and logistics systems, they are usually overlooked in systemic sustainability analyses. READ MORE

  4. 9. Fatigue of steel bridges : New structural details and the implementation of high strength steel

    Author : Oskar Skoglund; John Leander; Raid Karoumi; Alain Nussbaumer; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; high strength steel; fatigue; steel bridges; steel and concrete composite bridges; new structural details; linear elastic fracture mechanics; effective notch stress method; nominal stress method; Structural Engineering and Bridges; Bro- och stålbyggnad;

    Abstract : The use of high strength steel has the potential to reduce the amount of steel used in bridge structures and thereby facilitate a more sustainable construction. The amount of steel and what steel grade that can be used in bridge structures and other cyclic loaded structures are often limited by a material degradation process called fatigue. READ MORE

  5. 10. Innovative structural details using high strength steel for steel bridges
