  1. 1. Flexible fiberoptic bronchoscopy : studies on methods for the diagnosis of carcinoma of the lung, bronchial mucosal damage and haemodynamic effects

    Author : Rune Lundgren; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Flexible fiberoptic bronchoscopy; bronchial carcinoma; brush biopsy; respiratory mucosal damage; regeneration; mucociliary clearance; haemodynamic effects; hypoxemia;

    Abstract : The diagnostic accuracy attained with the use of transbronchial fine needle aspiration biopsy, aspiration of bronchial secretion, bronchial washing, brush biopsy and forceps biopsy via a flexible fiberoptic bronchoscope was compared in patients with carcinoma of the lung. In endoscopic visible tumours the sensitivity of forceps biopsy was higher than that of the other methods. READ MORE

  3. 3. Respiratory effects of particulate matter air pollution : studies on diesel exhaust, road tunnel, subway and wood smoke exposure in human subjects

    Author : Maria Sehlstedt; Sandström Thomas; Jamshid Pourazar; Anders Bucht; Steffen Loft; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Airway inflammation; antioxidant; bronchoscopy; detoxification; immunohistochemistry; particulate matter; Environmental medicine; Miljömedicin;

    Abstract : Background: Ambient air pollution is associated with adverse health effects, but the sources and components, which cause these effects is still incompletely understood. The aim of this thesis was to investigate the pulmonary effects of a variety of common air pollutants, including diesel exhaust, biomass smoke, and road tunnel and subway station environments. 4. 4. T cells in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease

    Author : Ester Roos-Engstrand; Anders Blomberg; Anders Bucht; Annelie F Behndig; Magnus Sköld; Claes-Göran Löfdahl; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; airway epithelium; bronchoscopy; bronchoalveolar lavage; endobronchial mucosal biopsies; inflammation; flow cytometry; T lymphocytes; CD25; CD127; FoxP3; Lung diseases; Lungsjukdomar; lungmedicin; Lung Medicine;

    Abstract : Background: Tobacco smoking is the main cause of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, COPD, but the mechanisms by which cigarette smoke induces COPD are still elusive. T lymphocytes have been implicated in the pathogenesis of the disease, but their role in the airway inflammation in COPD is not fully understood. READ MORE

  5. 5. Allergic airway disease : studies on diesel exhaust exposures, oxylipins and antioxidants
