1. Helium Filled Bubbles in Solids : Nucleation, Growth and Swelling
Abstract : When nuclear fuel, fabricated for the purpose of transmuting spent fuel is irradiated, significant amounts of He is produced from alpha particles mainly emitted when 242Cm decays into 238Pu. From irradiation experiments it is known that the presence of He in the solids alters the swelling behaviour of the material. READ MORE

2. Engineering nanomaterials with enhanced functionality
Abstract : This thesis deals with the engineering of novel nanomaterials, particularly nanocomposites and nanostructured surfaces with enhanced functionalities. The study includes two parts; in the first part, an in situ sol-gel polymerization approach is used for the synthesis of polymer-inorganic hybrid material and its exceptional transparent UV-shielding effect has been investigated. 3. Experimental Heat Transfer, pressure drop, and Flow Visualization of R-134a in Vertical Mini/Micro Tubes
Abstract : For the application of minichannel heat exchangers, it is necessary to have accurate design tools for predicting heat transfer and pressure drop. Until recently, this type of heat exchangers was not well studied, and in the scientific literature there were large discrepancies between results reported by different investigators. READ MORE

4. Measurements and simulations of thermoplasmonically induced Marangoni flows
Abstract : Particle transport in microfluidic environments is often dominated by slow diffusion near interfaces. However, by inducing localized fluid flow, it is possible to actively transport suspended nano-objects in confined spaces. READ MORE

5. Engineering Magnetic Droplets in Nanocontact Spin-Torque Nano-Oscillators
Abstract : Spin-torque nano-oscillators (STNOs) are nanoscale spintronic devices capable of generating highly tunable broadband microwave signals. In this thesis, I study nanocontact (NC)-based STNOs using strong perpendicular magnetic anisotropy(PMA) free layers, where a novel magnetic soliton—a magnetic droplet—exists. READ MORE
