16. Gas Mixing in a Circulating Fluidised Bed Boiler
Abstract : The present thesis is a study on the gas-mixing behaviour in a circulating fluidised bed (CFB) boiler. The aim is to describe how gas is spread in different regions of a CFB furnace and to explain variations in the mixing rate under different operating conditions. READ MORE

17. Lignin Exraction from Black Liquor: Precipitation, filtration and washing
Abstract : Lignin extraction is a very interesting option for pulp mills today. Lignin is one major component, present as a dissolved organic compound, in black liquor, which is a by-product in the alkaline pulping of wood. After the digestion of wood chips, the black liquor is separated from the cellulose. READ MORE

18. Development of a Free Surface Capability in a RANS Solver with Coupled Equations and Overset Grids
Abstract : This thesis is a result of investigations carried out during the implementation of a free surface capturing method in a RANS solver. The work consists of two distinct parts which complement each other, and the purpose is to improve the free surface interface sharpness and to reduce numerical diffusion of the gravity waves. 19. Thermoplasmonic Effects in Microfluidic Systems
Abstract : The field of plasmonics has enabled a plethora of scientific achievements over the past few decades. Such advances have been the result of the increased light-matter interaction that occurs over nanoscale dimensions facilitated by the localized plasmonic resonances supported by noble metal nanoparticles. 20. Solids flows in circulating fluidized beds: explorations of phenomena with applications to boilers
Abstract : The circulating fluidized bed (CFB), which is a technology that is commonly used in the heat and power sector, efficiently converts renewable and/or and low-grade solid fuels, such as biomass and biogenic waste fractions. CFB units serve also as a technological platform for carbon capture processes (combustion by oxy-firing or chemical looping), which are foreseen to play a key role in the transition of the energy system towards decreased atmospheric CO2 emissions.
