  1. 1. Silicon cycling in the Baltic Sea Trends and budget of dissolved silica

    University dissertation from Linköping : Linköping University Electronic Press

    Author : Liana Papush; Linköpings universitet.; Linköpings universitet.; [2011]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Dissolved silica; trends; nutrient; nutrient ratios; diatoms; Redfield; limitation; eutrophication; riverine load; budget; fluxes; accumulation; retention; optimisation; Baltic Sea; Löst kisel; trender; näringsämne; näringsämnens kvoter; kiselalger; Redfield; tillväxtbegränsning; övergödning; flodtillförsel; budget; flöden; ackumulering; retention; optimering; Östersjön; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP;

    Abstract : The dissolved silicon (DSi) has a crucial role for growth of a large group of primary producers – diatoms and, hence, impact on functioning of the aquatic food web. This thesis contributes to an increased understanding of the modifications of the DSi cycling in the Baltic Sea. READ MORE

  2. 2. Force Budget Analysis of Glacier Flow Ice Dynamical Studies on Storglaciären, Sweden, and Ice Flow Investigations of Outlet Glaciers in Dronning Maud Land, Antarctica

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Jim Hedfors; Uppsala universitet.; [2004]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physical geography and sedimentology; force budget; ice flux; ice dynamics; mass balance; strain heating; climate change; Storglaciären; Dronning Maud Land; Antarctica; Naturgeografi och sedimentologi; NATURAL SCIENCES Earth sciences Exogenous earth sciences Physical geography; NATURVETENSKAP Geovetenskap Exogen geovetenskap Naturgeografi;

    Abstract : This thesis contributes to the understanding of glacier response to climate change by ice dynamical studies on Storglaciären, Sweden, and Bonnevie-Svendsenbreen, Kibergbreen and Plogbreen in Dronning Maud Land, Antarctica. Ice surface velocities, ice geometry and temperature information is fed through a force budget model to calculate ice mass outflux of these glacial systems via three-dimensional stress distributions for a flux-gate. 3. 3. Air-Sea Fluxes of CO2 Analysis Methods and Impact on Carbon Budget

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Maria Norman; Uppsala universitet.; [2013]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; air-sea exchange; carbon dioxide; Baltic Sea; eddy-covariance method; inertial dissipation method; cospectral-peak method; Baltic Sea measurements; CO2 fluxes; Galathea 3 expedition; Baltic Sea modeling; water-side convection; coastal upwelling; carbon budget; Meteorologi; Meteorology;

    Abstract : Carbon dioxide (CO2) is an important greenhouse gas, and the atmospheric concentration of CO2 has increased by more than 100 ppm since prior to the industrial revolution.  The global oceans are considered an important sink of atmospheric CO2, since approximately one third of the anthropogenic emissions are absorbed by the oceans. Abstract : How are formal management controls designed and used in research & development (R&D)? The purpose of this study is to explain how such systems are designed and used in formulating and implementing strategies in a pharmaceutical product development organisation. The study uses a contingency approach to investigate how the control system is adjusted to the business strategy of the firm. READ MORE

  5. 5. The role of inland waters in the carbon cycle at high latitudes

    University dissertation from Umeå : Umeå universitet

    Author : Erik Lundin; Umeå universitet.; [2014]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; lakes; streams; carbon C ; carbon dioxide CO2 ; methane CH4 ; dissolved inorganic carbon DIC ; boreal; sub-arctic; arctic; emission; sediments; burial; budget; limnologi; Limnology; Earth Sciences with Specialization Environmental Analysis; geovetenskap med inriktning mot miljöanalys; naturgeografi; Physical Geography;

    Abstract : Understanding the drivers of climate change requires knowledge about the global carbon (C) cycle. Although inland waters play an important role in the C cycle by emitting and burying C, streams and lakes are in general overlooked in bottom-up approached C budgets. READ MORE
