1. Initial stages of metal- and organic-semiconductor interface formation
Abstract : This licentiate thesis deals with the electronic and geometrical properties of metal-semiconductor and organic-semiconductor interfaces investigated by photoelectron spectroscopy and scanning tunneling microscopy. First in line is the Co-InAs interface (metal-semiconductor) where it is found that Co is reactive and upon adsorption and thermal treatment it alloys with the indium of the substrate to form metallic islands, about 20 nm in diameter. 2. Electronic Structure and Atomistic Spin Dynamics of Nanostructured Materials
Abstract : The theoretical studies of several magnetic materials are presented in this thesis. To each of them, it was investigated the electronic structure, by means of density functional theory calculations, and/or magnetization dynamics, in the context of atomistic spin dynamics (ASD). READ MORE

3. Exploring the Magnetism of Ultra Thin 3d Transition Metal Films
Abstract : In this thesis the magnetic and structural properties of ultra-thin 3d transition metals films have been investigated, in particular Fe, Ni and Co films. X-ray Magnetic Circular Dichroism (XMCD) has provided element specific spin (ms ) and orbital (ml ) moments per atom by utilizing the magneto optic sum-rules. READ MORE

4. Photoelectron spectroscopic studies of deposited metal clusters and model catalyst systems
Abstract : Metal clusters are small metal aggregates between atomic and metal systems. Their physical and chemical properties have been observed to change with size. Their surface fraction is large which makes them of particular interest for catalysis. Most presently used catalyst systems consist of small metal particles on porous oxide supports. READ MORE

5. Scanning tunneling microscopy and photoemission studies of Ag films on metal/semiconductor surfaces
Abstract : The research presented in this thesis has been focused on the study of thin Ag films, grown on metal-reconstructed Si(111) and Ge(111) surfaces. The films have been grown at room temperature, and the morphologiesand electronic structures of the films have been investigated using scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy (STM/STS), low-energy electron diffraction (LEED) and angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy(ARPES).
