  1. 1. Neuroendocrine Stress Response after Burn Trauma

    Author : Andreas Lindahl; Bengt Gerdin; Lisa Ekselius; Kristofer Rubin; Riddez Louis; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Burn; Injuries; Neuroendocrine; Intensive Care; Cortisol; Chromogranin A; Natriuretic peptides; Plastikkirurgi; Plastic Surgery;

    Abstract : Some aspects of the stress response during acute intensive care for severe burns are described and quantified by measuring hormonal and neuroendocrine patterns and relating these to organ function in the short term. This includes an assessment of whether there are markers for the severity of stress that are better than conventional descriptors of the severity of a burn in predicting failing organ function. Abstract : Burn injury is a common trauma globally. Large burns require fluid resuscitation, infection control, and specialized intensive care. The size of the burn and infections caused by resistant microbes are correlated to mortality, and accurate mortality predictions are important. READ MORE
