1. Where imagination meets sensation : mental imagery, perception and multisensory integration
Abstract : What happens if we imagine seeing something while we are listening to something? Will it change what we hear? What happens if we imagine hearing something while we are looking at something? Will it change what we see? In everyday perception, our brains integrate the information provided to us by our different senses in order to form a coherent perception of the world around us in a process referred to as multisensory integration. However, sometimes the information provided to our senses arises from within, as is the case when we imagine a sensory stimulus; for example, when you picture in your mind the face of a loved one, or imagine how they sound when they say your name. 3. Development and tribological characterisation of magnetron sputtered TiB2 and Cr/CrN coatings
Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to develop wear resistant physical vapour deposited coatings of TiB2 as well as multilayers of Cr/CrN. The correlation between deposition parameters and fundamental coating properties such as microstructure, composition, residual stress and hardness has been investigated. READ MORE

4. Progesterone receptor modulators in contraception : clinical implications of ovarian and endometrial effects
Abstract : Background: Emergency contraception (EC) offers a last chance to prevent an unwanted pregnancy after unprotected sexual intercourse (UPSI) but before pregnancy occurs, for example after contraceptive failure, non-use of contraception or after rape. Progesterone receptor modulators (PRMs) exert their effect through acting as partial antagonists and partial agonists of the progesterone receptor (PR) and have proven effective for EC in low doses by postponing or inhibiting ovulation if it was taken preovulatory in the menstrual cycle. 5. Enterostatin - target proteins and intracellular mechanisms. Function in food intake and energy metabolism
Abstract : Hunger and satiety are the results of complex neural events that involve several neurotransmitters and peptides. Enterostatin is an appetite-regulating peptide released in the intestine in response to fat ingestion. Enterostatin specifically decreases fat intake, but has also metabolic effects like inhibition of insulin secretion. READ MORE
