  1. 21. From adrenergic signalling to gene expression : a study in brown adipocytes

    Author : Håkan Thonberg; Paul Trayhurn; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; zoofysiologi; Zoological physiology;

    Abstract : Many external stimuli influence gene expression in cells by first interacting with cell surface receptors. For alteration of the expression of a gene, the signal has to be passed into the nucleus. This is facilitated by particular proteins/molecules in a signal transduction cascade. READ MORE

  2. 22. Fabrication of Group IV Semiconductors on Insulator for Monolithic 3D Integration

    Author : Ali Asadollahi; Mikael Östling; Paul R. Berger; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; monolithic three dimensional M3D integration; strained germanium on insulator sGeOI pMOSFETs; silicon silicon-germanium on insulator sSOI sSiGeOI nMOSFETs; Si0.5Ge0.5 strain-relaxed buffer SRB ; direct bonding; chemical mechanical polishing CMP ; compressively strained GeOI; tensile strained Si0.5Ge0.5OI;

    Abstract : The conventional 2D geometrical scaling of transistors is now facing many challenges in order to continue the performance enhancement while decreasing power consumption. The decrease in the device power consumption is related to the scaling of the power supply voltage (Vdd) and interconnects wiring length. READ MORE

  3. 23. Unguja Ukuu on Zanzibar : An archaeological study of early urbanism

    Author : Abdurahman Juma; Paul Sinclair; Chapurukha M Kusimba; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Archaeology; cultural complexity; cycles; early urbanism; and urban characterization; Arkeologi; Archaeology subjects; Arkeologiämnen;

    Abstract : This study describes archaeological excavations carried out at Unguja Ukuu on the main island of Zanzibar, Tanzania. The site has long remained obscure, oral histories do not mention it and no particular group among the living community of the island describes its origin from the site. READ MORE

  4. 24. Epitaxial thin films of group 4 transition metal diborides

    Author : Claudia Schnitter; Hans Högberg; Johanna Rosén; Paul H. Mayrhofer; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Group 4 transition metal diboride films were deposited epitaxially onto different substrates, typically at 900 °C, using direct-current magnetron sputtering from compound targets of ZrB2, TiB2, and HfB2. Epitaxial ZrB2 has been deposited on Al2O3(0001), 4H-SiC(0001), and Si(100) describing the epitaxial relationships on Si(100) for the first time, where two relationships were observed from pole-figure analysis, namely A) in-plane: ZrB2[001] ∥ Si[110] and ZrB2[110] ∥ Si[110], out-of-plane: ZrB2(100) ∥ Si(100), and B) in-plane: ZrB2[11] ∥ Si[110] and the same rotated 90° around the 102 axis, out-of- plane: ZrB2(102) ∥ Si(100). 5. 25. Multifunctional Transition-metal Diboride Coatings Synthesized by Magnetron sputtering with Synchronized Metal-ion Irradiation

    Author : Babak Bakhit; Grzegorz Greczynski; Johanna Rosén; Paul Mayrhofer; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Refractory transition-metal diborides (TMB2), classified as ultra-high temperature ceramics, are promising materials for extreme thermal and chemical environments. There is a growing demand for employing TMB2 in high-temperature electrodes, advanced nuclear fission reactors, molten metal containment, refractory crucibles, thermocouple protection tubes in steel baths and aluminum reduction cells, reinforcement fibers, solar power, aerospace, and armor applications.
