  1. 1. Molecular aspects of proinsulin C-peptide interactions

    Author : Mikael Henriksson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Diabetes mellitus; proinsulin C-peptide;

    Abstract : Insulin biosynthesis in the beta-cells of the pancreas begins with the generation of preproinsulin, which is converted to proinsulin. Proinsulin is cleaved into equimolar amounts of insulin and connecting peptide (C-peptide), which are released into the circulation. READ MORE

  2. 2. Molecular Imaging of Diabetic Kidney Tissue and Binding Studies of Proinsulin C-peptide

    Author : Lina Lindfors; Jan Kihlberg; Ingela Lanekoff; Fredrik Almqvist; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Diabetic kidney disease; Proinsulin C-peptide; GPR146; Mass spectrometry imaging; nano-DESI; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Abstract : Diabetic kidney disease is a serious complication of diabetes with a complex and incompletely understood pathology. In this work, the molecular changes in diabetic rat kidneys at a very early disease stage were studied using nanospray desorption electrospray ionisation mass spectrometry imaging. READ MORE

  3. 3. Nutrition in infancy - Clinical studies on dietary intake, metabolism and growth

    Author : Pia Karlsland Åkeson; Preventiv pediatrik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; urea; triglycerides; protein intake; nutrition; Mediterranean; infant; growth; formula; fat intake; energy intake; diet; C-peptide; cholesterol; breast milk; bioavailability; amino acids; apolipoproteins; weaning; weaning foods; Pediatrics; Pediatri;

    Abstract : Nutrition in infancy - Clinical studies on dietary intake, metabolism and growth Our aims were to try to determine an appropriate formula protein concentration to be used during the second half of infancy and to evaluate the effects on plasma lipids when breast milk was exchanged for formula and/or weaning foods. Both aspects were studied with special regard to the influence of traditional weaning foods. READ MORE

  4. 4. Effects of early probiotic supplementation in a pediatric setting : Focus on body composition, metabolism and inflammation

    Author : Frida Karlsson Videhult; Christina E West; Olle Hernell; Inger Öhlund; Velmurugesan Arulampalam; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Lactobacillus paracasei ssp. paracasei F19; infants; children; growth; body composition; metabolism; follow-up; Pediatrics; pediatrik;

    Abstract : We aimed to determine the short- and long-term effects on growth, body composition, metabolic and inflammatory markers following supplementation with the probiotic Lactobacillus paracasei ssp. paracasei F19 (LF19) during weaning. READ MORE

  5. 5. Islet xenograft rejection : studies in the pig-to-rodents and pig-to-primate models

    Author : Lars Wennberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Xenotransplantation; islets; rejection; porcine; immunosuppression; C-peptide;

    Abstract : The aims of this thesis was: 1) to compare islet allo- and xenograft rejection in rats, using immunosuppression with CsA in a mixed allogeneic-xenogeneic islet transplantation model, 2) to evaluate the efficacy of various immunosuppressive drugs, with special reference to Leflunomide, in preventing islet xenograft rejection in the pig-to-rat model, 3) to perform an immunohistochemical study of porcine islet xenograft rejection in primates including primates treated with CsA+DSG, and 4) to study the metabolism and excretion of porcine C-peptide in mice, with special reference to the use of donor-specific C-peptide for monitoring islet xenograft function. In summary, the results were as follows: 1. READ MORE
