  1. 6. C-peptide structural and functional relationships studied by biosensor technology and mass spectrometry

    Author : Ermias Melles; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Proinsulin C-peptide; biosensor; mass spectrometry;

    Abstract : Proinsulin C-peptide has a number of biological activities and receives interest focusing on the therapeutic potential as a candidate for future co-replacement therapy with insulin in type 1 diabetes. Based on conservation results from comparisons of 22 mammalian proinsulin variants, analogs were constructed for studies of phosphorylation of mitogenactivated protein kinases (MAPKs) in Swiss 3T3 fibroblasts. 2. 7. Renal effects of C-peptide in experimental type-1 diabetes mellitus

    Author : Björn Samnegård; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Diabetic nephropathy; C-peptide; captopril; albuminuria; glomerular hyperfiltration; glomerular hypertrophy; glomerular mesangium expansion; type-IV collagen; RAGE; renal blood flow;

    Abstract : The incidence and prevalence of diabetic nephropathy are increasing continuously, mainly due to the increase in type-2 diabetes. In contrast, the risk of diabetic nephropathy for the individual patient has decreased considerably in recent decades due to improved glycemic control, successful treatment of hypertension and hyperlipidemia and the use of renin angiotensin system inhibitors, which have protective effects beyond those on blood pressure. 3. 8. Novel Approaches to Treatment and Prevention of Diabetic Nephropathy

    Author : Lina Nordquist; Mats Sjöquist; Peter Bergsten; William J. Welch; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Physiology; Diabetes; Nephropathy; C-peptide; Microneedle; Renal; GFR; Oxygen Consumption; Reabsorption; Fysiologi;

    Abstract : Several studies have reported beneficial effects of C-peptide supplementation in diabetic patients and animal models of insulinopenic diabetes. However, it is also established that good glycemic control is essential to minimize the risk of diabetes-induced complications. READ MORE

  4. 9. Beta cell function in autoimmune diabetes in young adults

    Author : Carina Törn; Celiaki och diabetes; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; ketoacidosis; insulin treatment; prognostic factors; C-peptide; type 2; type 1; IA-2A; ICA; GADA; IAA; Endocrinology; secreting systems; diabetology; Endokrinologi; sekretion; diabetologi;

    Abstract : This thesis presents the results from a study of the first four years of diabetes in 879 patients aged 15-34 years at diagnosis. The aims of this study were to compare clinical classification with the presence of autoantibodies, to study the natural course of beta cell function during the first years of disease and to define predictive factors for the remaining beta cell function after diagnosis. 5. 10. Epidemiology of diabetes in a well defined population in Sweden: the Skaraborg Diabetes Registry

    Author : Bo Berger; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Immunology; diabetologi; Endokrinologi; diabetology; secreting systems; Endocrinology; Medicin människa och djur ; Medicine human and vertebrates ; IA-2A; GADA; ICA; islet antibodies; C-peptide; mortality; prevalence; serology; transplantation; Immunologi; serologi; Public health; incidence; epidemiology; epidemiologi; sekretion; Folkhälsa;

    Abstract : Time trends in prevalence, incidence and mortality was followed in 15000 diabetic patients in 1991?2005. Clinical findings, C-peptide protocols, and islet antibodies were compared in their ability to distinguish type 1 from type 2 diabetes, and factors associated with the prognosis of diabetes were explored.
