  1. 1. Immunological mechanisms regulating neuroinflammation : a role for C-type lectin receptors and vitamin D

    Author : Marie N'diaye; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Autoimmunity of the central nervous system (CNS) such as in Multiple Sclerosis (MS) or its animal model Experimental Autoimmune Encephalomyelitis (EAE) requires the activation of self-reactive immune cells and the presentation of self-antigen by mature antigen presenting cells (APCs). In this thesis I have studied genetic and environmental mechanisms affecting APCs and CD4+ T cells which regulate susceptibility to EAE induced with myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein (MOG) in the rat. 2. 2. Proteoglycan Lectin Domain Interactions in Extracellular Matrix Assembly

    Author : Anders Olin; Infektionsmedicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biomedicinska vetenskaper allmänt ; General biomedical sciences; crystal structure; network formation; collagen IX; N-glycans; PRELP; cross-linking; fibulin-2; lectin; G3; ECM; proteoglycan;

    Abstract : This thesis focuses on the C-terminal G3 region of the large aggregating proteoglycans that are found in complex with hyaluronan in the extracellular matrix. The G3 region contains a C-type lectin domain that binds different extracellular matrix proteins playing an integral role in tissue organization during development and remodeling. READ MORE

  3. 3. Complex Formation in the Extra Cellular Matrix- Structural Study of CTLD of Agrrecan, Tenascin-R and Chondroadherin

    Author : Anna Pramhed; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; aggrecan; ECM; fibulin; structure; tenascin; CHAD; chondroadherin; X-ray; crystallography; calcium; CTLD; C-type lectin; fibronectin; FnIII; LRR; epidermal growth factor; leucine-rich repeat; matrix; EGF; cbEGF;

    Abstract : The cells of higher organisms exist in a complex protein network, the extracellular matrix (ECM), which has a wide variety of different components such as glycoproteins, proteoglycans and carbohydrates. As well as being the physical scaffold on which the cells are dependent for their positioning and mobility, the ECM exercises control over the cells, and changes in the matrix will affect the adhesion, proliferation and differentiation properties of these cells. 4. 4. Genetic and immunological studies of experimental arthritis, with emphasis on a novel C-type lectin receptor gene complex

    Author : Jian Ping Guo; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) is a chronic, systemic autoimmune syndrome primarily affecting peripheral joints. The etiology of RA is largely unknown but complex interactions between genetic and environmental factors contribute to the disease. Arthritis models more or less resembling RA are used to search for clues. READ MORE

  5. 5. Genetic regulation of autoimmunity in experimental neuroinflammation

    Author : Sevasti Flytzani; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic inflammatory disease that affects the central nervous system causing axonal demyelination and leads to significant disabilities. MS affects mainly young adults and incidence of disease in Sweden is around 600 new cases/year. READ MORE
