  1. 1. Interaction of Triglyceride-rich Lipoproteins with Platelets and Vitamin K-dependent Coagulation Factors

    Author : Ning Xu; Avdelningen för klinisk kemi och farmakologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Triglycerides.; Prothrombin; Protein S; Protein C; Platelets; Phospholipids; Metabolism; Lipoproteins; Lipids; Endocytosis; Electron microscopy; Cytochemistry; Coronary heart disease; Blood coagulation factors; Arachidonic acid; Atherosclerosis; Clinical chemistry; Klinisk kemi; Haematology; extracellular fluids; Hematologi; extracellulära vätskor;

    Abstract : 1. During incubation of platelets with 3H-arachidonic acid (20:4, n-6) and 14C-cholesterol doubly labelled and colloidal gold labelled chylomicrons (CMs) and chylomicron remnants (CMRs) CMs were taken up more efficiently than CMRs. Addition of unlabelled CMs, VLDLs, LDLs and HDLs decreased the uptake of labelled CMs. READ MORE

  2. 2. Humoral and cellular immune responses to proteins encoded by the hepatitis C virus

    Author : Zhu-Xu Zhang; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : HCV; genotype; antibody; IFN-alpha; MHC; haplotype; ScFv; peptide; T cell;

    Abstract : The hepatitis C virus (HCV) was the first described human pathogen of the hepaciviruses, a new genus within the flaviviridae family. A characteristic feature of HCV is that it has a high genetic heterogenecity. It is believed that the immune response is of vital importance to prevent, control, and to eradicate HCV infections. 3. 3. Studies of amyloid precursor protein trafficking and processing

    Author : Shaohua Xu; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is the most common form of neurodegenerative disease that slowly impairs memory and thinking abilities. Abnormal accumulation and aggregation of amyloid β peptides (Aβ), derived from proteolytic cleavage of the amyloid precursor protein (APP), is thought to be one of the critical triggers in the pathogenesis. 4. 4. Role of thioredoxin system in cell death caused by toxic compounds

    Author : Xu Zhang; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Thioredoxin systems, comprising Trx, TrxR and NADPH, are one of the major disulfide reductase systems, which is crucial in maintaining cellular redox balance in mammalian cells. TrxR is a selenoprotein with a Sec residue in its C-terminal active site. READ MORE

  5. 5. Nicotine and endotoxin in airway hyperreactivity and inflammation

    Author : Yuan Xu; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Active, as well as passive cigarette smoke exposure is detrimental to the human health, negatively affecting the cardiovascular, respiratory and immune systems. In addition, it is also carcinogenic. READ MORE
