6. Hepatitis C virus kinetics during antiviral treatment
Abstract : It is estimated that 170 million individuals have chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection, whereof 20-30% will develop end stage liver disease within 20-30 years. Antiviral therapy can stop this deterioration and clear the infection in 40-80% of the patients depending on treatment and HCV genotype. READ MORE

7. Growth hormone regulation of LFABP and PPARa. Genes involved in hepatic lipid metabolism
Abstract : Growth hormone (GH) is known to have several important effects in the control of metabolism. The aim of these studies was to investigate how GH regulates genes involved in fatty acid transport and metabolism in the liver and the interaction between GH and fatty acids in this regulation. 8. Long-term effects of acupuncture
Abstract : In a retrospective follow-up study, n=202, long-term pain relief (>6 months) after a course of acupuncture treatments was found mainly among patients with chronic nociceptive pain while patients with neurogenic or psychogenic pain did not benefit much. In a placebo-controlled randomised single-blind long-term study with independent observer of chronic nociceptive low back pain, n=50, it was found that acupuncture, was significantly superior to true placebo in all outcome measurements, even more than 6 months after the treatment series. 9. Symmetry of Halonium Complexes in Solution
Abstract : In this thesis the symmetry of two interaction types involving electropositive halogens have been studied in solution; the N-X+-N halogen bond (X = Br or I), and the C-X+-C interaction of previously characterised, cyclic, 1,2-bridged halonium ions (X = Cl or Br), respectively. The three N-X+-N model structures included are bispyridine, 1,2-bis(pyridine-2-ylethynyl)benzene and 1,2-bis((4-methylpyridin-2-yl)ethynyl)benzene halonium triflate complexes. READ MORE

10. Pharmacokinetic dosing of factor VIII and factor IX in prophylactic treatment of haemophilia
Abstract : The aim of the thesis was to increase cost-effectiveness in prophylactic treatment of haemophilia. Prophylaxis is effective to prevent bleedings and arthropathy, but the high cost limits its use. First, a new distribution system for clotting factor concentrates was implemented in Sweden to improve availability and reduce risks and costs. READ MORE
