  1. 11. Synthesis and Characterization of Transition Metal Diborides

    Author : Jimmy Thörnberg; Johanna Rosén; Per Persson; Helmut Riedl; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; DCMS; HiPIMS; Titanium Diboride; Titanium Aluminum Diboride; Chromium Diboride; Microstructure; Hardness; Oxidation Resistance;

    Abstract : This thesis is devoted towards physical vapor deposition (PVD) of thin films of transition-metal (TM) diborides, focused on the material system TiBx, Ti1-xAlxB2-y and CrBx. The metal diborides are a large family of compounds with both metallic and ceramic properties, due to its bonding nature being a mix of covalent and ionic bonds. READ MORE

  2. 12. Maximal regularity of the solutions for some degenerate differential equations and their applications

    Author : Raya Akhmetkaliyeva; Lars-Erik Persson; Peter Wall; Kordan Ospanov; Alexey Karapetyants Karapetyants; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Matematik; Mathematics;

    Abstract : This PhD thesis deals with the study of existence and uniqueness together with coercive estimates for solutions of certain differential equations.The thesis consists of six papers (papers A, B, C, D, E and F), two appendices and an introduction, which put these papers and appendices into a more general frame and which also serves as an overview of this interesting field of mathematics. 3. 13. Synthesis and characterization of Ga-containing MAX phase thin films

    Author : Andrejs Petruhins; Johanna Rosén; Per O A Persson; Erik Lewin; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : The study of magnetic Mn+1AXn (MAX) phases (n = 1 − 3, M – a transition metal, A – an A group element, X – C or N) is a recently established research area, fuelled by theoretical predictions and first confirmed experimentally through alloying of Mn into the well-known Cr2AlC and Cr2GeC. Theoretical phase stability investigations suggested a new magnetic MAX phase, Mn2GaC, containing Ga which is liquid close to room temperature. READ MORE

  4. 14. Synthesis and characterization of Mo- and W-based atomic laminates

    Author : Rahele Meshkian; Johanna Rosén; Per Persson; Arni Sigurdur Ingason; Michael Naguib; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : Mn+1AXn (MAX) phases are inherently nanolaminated compounds based on transition metals (M), A group elements (A), and carbon or/and nitrogen (X), which exhibit a unique combination of ceramic and metallic properties. My thesis work has focused on exploring novel MAX phase chemistries, including elemental combinations beyond those traditionally used for MAX phases, and their graphene-analogous 2D counterpart, MXenes. 5. 15. Synthesis and characterization of magnetic nanolaminated carbides

    Author : Andrejs Petruhins; Johanna Rosén; Per O. Å. Persson; Niklas K. Hellgren; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : MAX phases are a group of nanolaminated ternary carbides and nitrides, with a composition expressed by the general formula Mn+1AXn (? = 1 − 3), where M is a transition metal, A is an A-group element, and X is carbon and/or nitrogen. MAX phases have attracted interest due to their unique combination of metallic and ceramic properties, related to their inherently laminated structure of a transition metal carbide (Mn+1Xn) layer interleaved by an A-group metal layer.
