  1. 1. Essays on Land Lease Markets, Productivity, Biodiversity, and Environmental Variability

    Author : Mintewab Bezabih; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; JEL-codes: C7; C21; C35; C61; C88; C93; D00; D2; Q02; Q12; Q15; Q29; Q51;

    Abstract : Paper 1: Tenure Insecurity, Transaction Costs in the Land Lease Market and Implications for Gendered Productivity Differentials This study assesses the link between land leasing behavior and productivity differentials between male and female-headed households. A double-moral hazard model allows us to show that the landlord’s tenure insecurity leads to a sub-optimal level of effort on the tenant’s part, via its impact on the likelihood of contract renewal. 2. 2. Translational readthrough of nonsense mutant TP53, RB1 and PTEN tumor suppressor genes as a strategy for novel cancer therapy

    Author : Mireia Palomar Siles; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : A nonsense mutation causes a premature termination codon in the coding sequence of an mRNA. This leads to termination of translation and release of a truncated and in most cases non-functional protein. READ MORE

  3. 3. Morphology studies of thin films of polyfluorene: fullerene blends

    Author : Cecilia Björström; Kjell Magnusson; Mats Fahlman; Karlstads universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physics; Fysik; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : The formation of thin films of polymer blends by spin-coating from solution is characterised by rapid solvent quenching, a process that results in non-equilibrium morphologies. Thin films of conjugated polymer blends are used as the active material in polymer solar cells, in which the morphology may have drastic effects on device performance. READ MORE

  4. 4. Fabricating designed fullerene nanostructures for functional electronic devices

    Author : Christian Larsen; Ludvig Edman; René Janssen; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Organic electronics; Organic field-effect transistor; Organic photovoltaics; Fullerene C60; PCBM; Photochemical transformation; Resist-free lithography; C60 Nanorod; Solution processable; nanomaterials; nanomaterial; Physical Chemistry; fysikalisk kemi; fysik; Physics; Materials Science; materialvetenskap;

    Abstract : A long-term goal within the field of organic electronics has been to developflexible and functional devices, which can be processed and patterned withlow-cost and energy-efficient solution-based methods. This thesis presents anumber of functional paths towards the attainment of this goal via thedevelopment and demonstration of novel fabrication and patterningmethods involving the important organic-semiconductor family termedfullerenes. 5. 5. Thin films of polyfluorene:fullerene blends - Morphology and its role in solar cell performance

    Author : Cecilia Björström Svanström; Ellen Moons; Jean Manca; Karlstads universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Polymer Solar Cells; Polymer Blends; Morphology; Polyfluorene; PCBM; AFM; SIMS; Spin-Coating; Surface Directed Spinodal Decomposition; Physics; Fysik; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : The sun provides us daily with large quantities of energy in the form of light. With the world’s increasing demand of electrical energy the prospect of converting this solar light into electricity is highly tempting. In the strive towards mass-production and low cost solar cells, new types of solar cells are being developed, e.g. READ MORE
