  1. 1. Irreversible electroporation of pancreatic adenocarcinoma

    Author : Christopher Månsson; Britt-Marie Karlson; Anders Nilsson; Per Hellman; Sara Regnér; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pancreatic Neoplasms; Electroporation; Interventional Ultrasonography; CA 19-9.;

    Abstract : Pancreatic cancer (PC) is a severe diagnosis with poor prognosis. Radical surgery is the only treatment that can possibly lead to a cure, and even with surgery, the 5-year survival is only 20%–25%. The majority of patients cannot be resected due to metastases or having a tumour that is too advanced locally (LAPC) with encasement of blood-vessels. READ MORE

  2. 2. Molecular and functional studies of the BCR/ABL1 fusion gene

    Author : Petra Johnels; Avdelningen för klinisk genetik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; extracellular fluids; Hematologi; Haematology; onkologi; Cytologi; cancerology; oncology; Cytology; gene expression profiling; acute lymphoblastic leukemia; chronic myeloid leukemia; Ph chromosome; BCR ABL; extracellulära vätskor; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik; cancer;

    Abstract : The BCR/ABL1 fusion gene is associated with chronic myeloid leukemia and a subgroup of acute lymphoblastic leukemia. The general aim of this thesis was to increase the understanding of BCR/ABL1-induced leukemogenesis by molecular and functional studies of this fusion gene. READ MORE

  3. 3. Invasive treatment of renal artery stenosis - effects on blood pressure, medication, renal function and inflammatory biomarkers

    Author : Alaa Al Hadad; Lund Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Kardiovaskulära systemet; Cardiovascular system; Medicin människa och djur ; Medicine human and vertebrates ; inflammatory biomarkers; renal artery stenosis; Renovascular hypertension; percutaneous transluminal renal angioplasty; mean pressure gradient;

    Abstract : Renal artery stenosis (RAS) causes hypertension, decreased glomerular filteration rate (GFR), and renal ischemia. RAS is progressive and causes 5-16% of all cases of renal failure. Prevalence of RAS in patients with hypertension is 1-5%. READ MORE

  4. 4. Stromal components and micro-RNAs as biomarkers in pancreatic cancer

    Author : Oskar Franklin; Malin Sund; Daniel Öhlund; Ola Billing; Marco Del Chiaro; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pancreatic cancer; stroma; basement membrane; tumour markers; type IV collagen; endostatin; osteopontin; tenascin c; hyaluronan; CD44; micro-RNA; kirurgi; Surgery;

    Abstract : Background Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) patients have the poorest 5-year survival rates of all cancer forms. It is difficult to diagnose at early disease stages, tumour relapse after surgery is common, and current chemotherapies are ineffective. READ MORE

  5. 5. Endoscopic methods for detecting malignancy in patients with ulcerative colitis and primary sclerosing cholangitis

    Author : Bo Lindberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Ulcerative colitis; primary sclerosing cholangitis; cholangiocarcinoma; colorectal cancer; dysplasia; brush cytology; Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography ERCP .;

    Abstract : Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a chronic ulcerative inflammatory bowel disease affecting the mucosa of the large intestine. UC patients have an increased risk for the development of colorectal cancer mainly associated with long duration and extensive involvement of the colitis. READ MORE
