  1. 1. A Study of the Initial Mould Filling during Up-hill Ingot Casting

    Author : Line Hallgren; Pär Jönsson; Anders Tilliander; Seppo Louhenkilpi; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; swirling flow; up-hill teeming; nozzle; casting; fluid flow; modelling; CFD; LDA; swirl; ingot casting; filling; red eye;

    Abstract : The fluid flow in the mould during up-hill teeming is of great importance for the quality of the cast ingot and thereby the quality of the final steel products. At the early stage of the filling of an up-hill teeming mould, liquid steel flows with a high velocity from the runner into the mould. READ MORE

  2. 2. The double axe in Minoan Crete : a functional analysis of production and use

    Author : Maria Lowe Fri; Charlotte Scheffer; Lena Sjögren; Doniert Evely; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Bronze Age Crete; Minoan period; double axe; casting; casting defects; finishing treatment; experimental archaeology; use-wear; use; user; Archaeology; classical; Arkeologi; klassisk; antikens kultur och samhällsliv; Classical Archaeology and Ancient History;

    Abstract : This study examines the production and use of Minoan double axes with the aim of finding out what working activities they were used for. The double axe has earlier been associated with a woodworker, a carpenter, a stonemason and a butcher. READ MORE

  3. 3. Wheat Gluten -Based Materials and Composites: Extrusion, Casting and Antimicrobial Properties

    Author : Hasan Türe; Mikael Hedenqvist; José-Maria Lagaron; KTH; []
    Keywords : wheat gluten; extrusion; urea; montmorillonite; sol-gel process; hybrid materials; casting; compression moulding; potassium sorbate; antifungal; plasticiser; thermal; mechanical and barrier properties.;

    Abstract : The use of bio-based polymers as packaging materials has gained much attention due to increasing environmental concerns regarding non-biodegradable petroleum-derived plastics. Wheat gluten (WG) is a valuable renewable resource for the production of bio-based materials because of its low price, biodegradability, good film-forming properties and good gas barrier properties under dry conditions. 4. 4. Some aspects of convection as well as graphite and carbide formations during casting

    Author : Fareed Ashraf Khan; Michael Vynnycky; Pär Jönsson; Bo Rogberg; Hasse Fredriksson; Jessica Elfsberg; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; carbides; heat treatment; cast iron; ball bearing steel; casting; cooling rate; structure analysis; nodule distribution; melt stirring; nuclei; karbider; värmebehanding; gjutjärn; kullagerstål; gjutning; kylningshastighet; strukturanalys; nodulefördelning; smältrörelse; kärnor.; Metallurgical process science; Metallurgisk processvetenskap;

    Abstract : It is an established fact that segregation during casting affects the physical properties of carbon-based ferro alloys; this motivates the study of the segregation behaviour of carbon and carbide-forming solute elements. In this context, this thesis investigates two different situations: the effects of cooling rate and turbulence on the precipitation behaviour of the graphite nodules in nodular cast iron; the nature of carbide precipitation in a bearing steel grade and the effects of subsequent soaking on these carbides. 5. 5. Formation of non-metallic inclusions and the possibility of their removal during ingot casting

    Author : Lars Ragnarsson; Sichen Du; Carlo Mapelli; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Ingot casting; tool steel; inclusion; runner; refractory; erosion; casting powder; cold model; argon shroud; reoxidation; oxygen measurement; CFD; PIV; Metallurgical process engineering; Metallurgisk processteknik;

    Abstract : The present study was carried out to investigate the formation and evolution of non-metallic inclusions during ingot casting. Emphasize have been on understanding the types of inclusions formed and developed through the casting process and on the development of already existing inclusions carried over from the ladle during casting.
