  1. 1. Glycoside hydrolases from Rhodothermus marinus Modular organisation and structure-function relationships

    University dissertation from Maher Abou Hachem, Kämnärsvägen 13, E105, 226 46 Lund, Sweden

    Author : Maher Abou-Hachem; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; [2003]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; calcium-binding; modular; endoglucanase; thermostable; CBM; xylanase; Biotechnology; Bioteknik;

    Abstract : The thermophilic bacterium Rhodothermus marinus produces several thermostable glycoside hydrolases. The studies presented in this thesis were performed on two enzymes, belonging to glycoside hydrolase families 10 and 12, produced by this microorganism. The family 10 xylanase, Xyn10A, is modular in architecture consisting of five domains or modules. READ MORE

  2. 2. Engineering protein-carbohydrate interactions - lessons from natural and evolved carbohydrate binding modules

    University dissertation from Maher Abou Hachem, Kämnärsvägen 13, E105, 226 46 Lund, Sweden

    Author : Laura von Schantz; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; [2012]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; carbohydrate binding modules protein engineering affinity affinity maturation phage display specificity crystallography cellulose derivatives;

    Abstract : Protein-carbohydrate interactions are of central role in all living organism. In the studies presented in this thesis several strategies for engineering such interactions have been investigated. In the first study the binding affinity of a carbohydrate binding module (CBM) was improved a 100-fold through affinity maturation. READ MORE

  5. 5. Design of enzymatic systems for the modification of cellulose fiber surfaces

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Bioteknologi

    Author : Malin Gustavsson; KTH.; [2003]
    Keywords : Candida antarctica lipase B; Pichia pastoris; cellulose-binding module; proteolysis; carbohydrate ester; xyloglucan endotransglycosylase; fiber modification;

    Abstract : This thesis describes the design of enzymatic systems forthe modification of cellulose fiber surfaces. A single-enzymeapproach employed a conjugate between theNeocallimastix patriciarumCel6A cellulose-bindingmodule and lipase B fromCandida antarctica(CBM-CALB) to enhance theaccessibility of the enzyme to the target hydroxyl groups.
