1. Recombinant mucin-immunoglobulin chimeras as xenoreactive anti-pig antibody absorbers
Abstract : Human allotransplantation is nowadays the generally accepted treatment of choice for several illnesses leading to organ failure. A major problem facing clinical organ transplantation is the lack of human donor organs and tissues. Xenotransplantation from pig to man is considered a plausible solution to this problem. READ MORE

2. Lignin nanoparticles for photonic crystals and photothermal films
Abstract : The development of sustainable materials from biobased resources is essential due to environmental concerns posed by fossil-based materials. Lignin is a chemically complex biopolymer that exists in woody tissues of vascular plants. Lignin has many useful properties such as antioxidant activity, thermal stability, UV-absorbance, rigidity and so on. READ MORE

3. Capacitive Mixing for Extracting Concentration Gradient Energy
Abstract : Capacitive mixing (CapMix) is a renewable method of extracting energy from the salinity gradient energy (SGE) between seawater and freshwater. The classical CapMix systems using solid electrodes generate electricity by periodically circulating seawater and freshwater into the CapMix system. READ MORE

4. Disordered Icosahedral Boron-Rich Solids : A Theoretical Study of Thermodynamic Stability and Properties
Abstract : This thesis is a theoretical study of configurational disorder in icosahedral boron-rich solids, in particular boron carbide, including also the development of a methodological framework for treating configurational disorder in such materials, namely superatom-special quasirandom structure (SA-SQS). In terms of its practical implementations, the SA-SQS method is demonstrated to be capable of efficiently modeling configurational disorder in icosahedral boron-rich solids, whiles the thermodynamic stability as well as the properties of the configurationally disordered icosahedral boron-rich solids, modeled from the SA-SQS method, can be directly investigated, using the density functional theory (DFT). 5. Monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 and CC-chemokine receptor-2 in two different conditions related to atherosclerosis
Abstract : Atherosclerosis is the leading cause of death in the industrialized parts of the world. The pathological process is characterised by increased lipid influx to the arterial wall due to elevated circulating levels of low density lipoprotein (LDL). LDL is oxidatively modified by reactive oxygen species forming oxLDL. READ MORE
