  1. 1. Using Multicoloured Halftone Screens for Offset Print Quality Monitoring

    Author : Lars Bergman; Björn Kruse; Antanas Verikas; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Datorteknik; multicolour printing; printing process; colour images; colour impression; CCD-camera; Datorteknik; Computer engineering; Datorteknik;

    Abstract : In the newspaper printing industry, offset is the dominating printing method and the use of multicolour printing has increased rapidly in newspapers during the last decade. The offset printing process relies on the assumption that an uniform film of ink of right thickness is transferred onto the printing areas. READ MORE

  2. 2. A Particle Image Velocimetry Study of Bubbly Gas-Liquid Flow

    Author : Xiaoyun Tu; Livsmedelsteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; turbulent dispersion; Food and drink technology; Livsmedelsteknik; turbulence; Rushton turbine; stirred tank; slip velocity; bubbly gas liquid two-phase flow; coherent structure; CCD camera; PIV; POD;

    Abstract : The aim of this work is to build a framework that can be used for characterizing the bubbly gas liquid turbulent flow in the stirred bioreactor tank. To this end we have developed and modified techniques with which to measure the velocity of both dispersed gas and carrier liquid phases by the optical measurement technique, a 2-CCD camera Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) system; and to characterize the turbulence by the wavelets tool, Proper Orthogonal Decomposition (POD). 3. 3. Image Analysis Techniques for Segmentation, Classification and Presentation of High-Resolution Prometaphase Chromosome

    Author : Stefan Nivall; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; aberration; segmentation; digital image analysis; high-resolution CCD camera; classification; prometaphase; chromosome; database;

    Abstract : The extraction, analysis, and presentation of integrated optical density (IOD) profiles from banded prometaphase chromosome material is an increasingly important clinical method for the detection and analysis of structural aberrations. Particular translocations, duplications, or deletions of genetic material have been shown to be implicated in specific mental or physical disorders. READ MORE

  4. 4. Laboratory method for the study of moisture-induced waviness in paper

    Author : Cecilia Land; Göran Ström; Karlstads universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; method; moisture; paper; paper web; wavelength; waviness; Cellulose and paper engineering; Cellulosa- och pappersteknik; Chemical Engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Abstract : Paper that is subjected to moisture undergoes dimensional changes. It expands during moistening and shrinks during drying. When the paper is under tension between rollers, the effects are complex since shrinkage and expansion are restricted in the width direction. Waves can then appear on the paper web. READ MORE

  5. 5. Fluorimetric Bioprobe Based on DNA-dye Intercalation - Application in Enviromental and Clinical Monitoring

    Author : Yang Liu; Tillämpad biokemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Bioteknik; Biotechnology; Biokemisk teknik; Biochemical technology; Antibiotics; Toxic aromatic compounds; Doxorubicin; High throughput screening; Fluorimetric assay; DNA;

    Abstract : Nucleic acids have many unique structural features that offer reliable means of recognizing and monitoring many compounds of medical or environmental importance. In recent years, there has been an enormous increase in the use of nucleic acids as a tool to determine the chemical compounds of environmental and clinical interest and the major research activities in these areas have been directed towards the design of sequence-selective biosensors based on hybridization.
