1. Activation of human B cells with the Moraxella catarrhalis IgD-binding protein MID
Abstract : Moraxella catarrhalis is a respiratory tract pathogen that causes significant health problems, including acute otitis media in children, lower respiratory tract infections in adults and the elderly and sinusitis in both children and adults. The interest in M. READ MORE

2. B cell activation in vitro: thymus-dependent immune responses and bacterial cell surface proteins
Abstract : In this thesis aspects of peripheral B lymphocyte differentiation were studied. Through in vitro experiments, B lymphocyte activation was assessed. B lymphocytes express immunoglobulin (Ig) specific for a certain antigen on the cell surface, and when surface Ig is crosslinked by an antigen, the cell is activated. READ MORE

3. Feedback Enhancement of Antibody Responses via Complement and Fc Receptors
Abstract : IgG, IgM and IgE in complex with antigen have the capacity to regulate specific immune responses. In this investigation, the role of Fc receptors for IgG (FcγRI, FcγRII and FcγRIII) and complement receptors 1 and 2 (CR1/2) for antibody-mediated enhancement of antibody responses are investigated. 5. B cell subpopulations in the pathogenesis of rheumatoid arthritis
Abstract : B cell depleting therapy has proven to be an effective treatment in rheumatoid arthritis (RA), a disease characterized by the presence of autoantibodies against citrullinated proteins (ACPA) and the Fc portion of IgG (rheumatoid factor, RF). This demonstrates the vital role B cells play in the disease. READ MORE
