  1. 1. Adoptive T Cell Therapy of Viral Infection and Cancer : Ex vivo Expansion of Cytomegalovirus- and Prostate Antigen-specific T Cells

    Author : Björn Carlsson; Magnus Essand; Thomas Tötterman; Malcolm Brenner; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Immunology; Immunotherapy; Adoptive T cell therapy; Dendritic cell; T cell; Tetramer; Cytomegalovirus; Transplantation; pp65; Prostate cancer; TARP; Prostate antigens; Immunologi; Immunology; Immunologi;

    Abstract : The main focus of my thesis has been to develop protocols for generating antigen-specific cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs) and T helper cells (TH) for adoptive transfer to treat cytomegalovirus (CMV) disease and prostate cancer. CMV viremia is a severe complication in immunocompromised stem cell transplanted patients. READ MORE

  2. 2. Glucocorticoid in T cell differentiation

    Author : Yintong Xue; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Thymocytes differentiate into mature T cells with an immunological restriction for self major histocompatibility complex (MHC) antigens. Cells that do not recognize self MHC expressed on thymic epithelial cells (TEC) die by a rapid induction of apoptosis (default selection). READ MORE

  3. 3. Regulatory mechanisms controlling T cell activity

    Author : Anette Sundstedt; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; transplantation; T cell superantigen anergy interleukin-2 transcription factor cytotoxicity; serology; Immunology; Immunologi; serologi;

    Abstract : This thesis is based on work studying the immunoregulatory mechanisms that govern the balance between activation and inactivation of T lymphocytes. Most of the work has been carried out in an experimental system using a T cell receptor (TCR-Vb3) transgenic mouse strain to obtain a homogenous T-cell population and utilizing the properties of bacterial superantigens to induce T cell responses and unresponsiveness in vivo. 4. 4. Extrathymic T cell receptor gene rearrangement in human alimentary tract

    Author : Anna Bas; Marie-Louise Hammarström; Sten Hammarström; Adrian Hayday; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Immunology; T cell maturation; recombination activating gene; preTα; human intestinal mucosa; intraepithelial lymphocytes; lamina propria lymphocytes; nasopharyngeal tonsil; Immunologi; Immunology; Immunologi; immunologi; Immunology;

    Abstract : T lymphocytes regulate the initiation, duration, and magnitude of adaptive immune responses and function as effector cells in cell mediated immunity. To become immunologically competent they must generate functional antigen receptors. This process takes place in the thymus and requires somatic recombination of T cell receptor (TCR) genes. 5. 5. Cytomegalovirus Infection in Immunocompetent and Renal Transplant Patients : Clinical Aspects and T-cell Specific Immunity

    Author : Fredrik Sund; Britt-Marie Eriksson; Olle Korsgren; Halvor Rollag; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cytomegalovirus; renal transplantation; cellular immunity; valacyclovir; mismatched; prophylaxis; tetramer; CD4 T cells; CD8 T cells; Infectious diseases; Infektionssjukdomar;

    Abstract : Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is a β-herpesvirus that, after primary infection, establishes a life-long persistence in the human host. Up to 90% of humans are infected with CMV, that is kept under control by CMV-specific CD8+ and CD4+ T cells. In patients with an impaired cellular immunity, however, CMV infections can be life-threatening. READ MORE
