  1. 16. Stromal components and micro-RNAs as biomarkers in pancreatic cancer

    Author : Oskar Franklin; Malin Sund; Daniel Öhlund; Ola Billing; Marco Del Chiaro; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pancreatic cancer; stroma; basement membrane; tumour markers; type IV collagen; endostatin; osteopontin; tenascin c; hyaluronan; CD44; micro-RNA; kirurgi; Surgery;

    Abstract : Background Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) patients have the poorest 5-year survival rates of all cancer forms. It is difficult to diagnose at early disease stages, tumour relapse after surgery is common, and current chemotherapies are ineffective. READ MORE

  2. 17. The expression and regulation of hyaluronan synthases and their role in glycosaminoglycan synthesis

    Author : Jonas Brinck; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biochemistry; hyaluronan; glycosaminoglycans; CD44; growth factors; UDP-glucose dehydrogenase; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Medical Biochemistry; medicinsk biokemi;

    Abstract : The glycosaminoglycan hyaluronan is an essential component of the extracellular matrix in all higher organisms, affecting cellular processes such as migration, proliferation and differentiation. Hyaluronan is synthesized by a plasma membrane bound hyaluronan synthase (HAS) which exists in three genetic isoforms. READ MORE

  3. 18. Signalling mechanisms in B cell differentiation: Studies on specific human immune response in vitro

    Author : Sigurdur Ingvarsson; Institutionen för immunteknologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Immunology; Bioteknik; Biotechnology; CD44; CD40; Specific antibody secretion; B cells; Germinal centres; serology; transplantation; Immunologi; serologi;

    Abstract : We need to understand the major signalling events in human B cell differentiation in order to be able to regulate the generation of human antigen specific antibodies. This study has focused on the signalling mechanisms involved in generation of germinal centre reaction and secretion of specific antibodies by human B cells, using different in vitro immunisation technologies. 4. 19. Extracellular matrix as a regulator of cell behavior : Biological effects of hyaluronan biosynthesis and catabolism

    Author : Mehdi Rahmanian; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biochemistry; Hyaluronan; hyaluronidase; CD44; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Medical Biochemistry; medicinsk biokemi;

    Abstract : Extracellular matrix surrounding cells is an important regulator of cellular functions. Hyaluronan (HA) is a glycosaminoglyean and a constituent component of the extracellular matrix in all tissues. It is synthesized by hyaluronan syntheses (HAS) at the inner surface of cell membrane and degraded by hyaluronidases to small fragments. READ MORE

  5. 20. Renal Ischemia/Reperfusion Injury in Diabetes : Experimental Studies in the Rat

    Author : Jan Melin; Bengt Rippe; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Medical sciences; diabetes mellitus; ischemia reperfusion; rat; end-stage renal disease; inflammation; fibrosis; hyaluronan; CD44; treatment; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Medicine; medicin;

    Abstract : Diabetes mellitus (DM) is one of the leading causes of end stage renal failure. An increased susceptibility to renal ischemia/reperfusion (I/R)-injury was found in DM rats. Unilateral renal ischemia for as short as 20 minutes led to an irreversible progressive injury in DM kidneys, whereas the injury in non-DM kidneys was almost reversible. READ MORE
