  1. 1. Epigenetics in nasopharyngeal carcinoma

    Author : Di Sun; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : NPC; Methylation; TSG; EBV; LMP1; CDH13; RASSF2A; MMSP;

    Abstract : Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) shows a remarkably distinctive ethnic and geographic distribution among the world suggesting that genetic susceptibility backgrounds cooperate with the environmental risk factors in etiology of NPCs. Among the environmental factors, much attention has been focused on a well-documented association with Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), which can be detected in 100% undifferentiated NPCs. READ MORE

  2. 2. EBV gene variation and epigenetic alterations in asian nasopharyngeal carcinoma and potential clinical applications

    Author : Do Nguyen-Van; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : EBV; EBNA1; LMP1; LMP2A; FR; Q locus; genetic variation; antisense oligonucleotide; CDH13; DNA methylation; epigenetics; nasopharyngeal carcinoma;

    Abstract : The incidence of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC), an epithelial tumor, varies remarkably in different geographic regions and human populations. The Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), other environmental factors and genetic susceptibility are all considered to be involved in the etiology of this form of cancer and the EBV has been extensively studied in this context. 3. 3. Genetic predisposition and dietary factors in relation to adiponectin and insulin resistance

    Author : He Gao; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Diabetes mellitus is a global health problem, owing to the high prevalence and enormous associated economic burden. Insulin resistance is a critical condition to the development of type 2 diabetes (T2D). Adiponectin, a hormone secreted by the adipose cells, has attracted much attention for its insulin-sensitizing and anti-diabetic effects. READ MORE

  4. 4. Adiponectin in atherosclerosis

    Author : Jonas Persson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Adiponectin;

    Abstract : Adiponectin is a protein secreted from adipocytes, circulating at high levels in plasma (3 30μg/mL), and in overweight subjects it is down regulated. Adiponectin inhibits the development of atherosclerosis in experimental animal models but whether adiponectin is anti atherogenic in humans is not known. READ MORE
