  1. 1. Astroglial Cells : Role in Neurodegenerative-Inflammatory Processes in the Central Nervous System

    Author : Gun Eriksson; Karl Åkerman; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chemistry; Kemi; neurokemi och neurotoxikologi; Neurochemistry and Neurotoxicology;

    Abstract : Inflammatory processes, mediated by the pro-inflammatory cytokines interleukin (IL) -1a/b, tumor necrosis factora(TNFa), IL-6 and excitotoxic actions of glutamate, are proposed to be implicated in neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer's disease.A neurotoxic fragment ofb-amyloid,bA25-35, was shown to induce a reactive phenotype of primary astrocytes and microglial cells in a time-dependent manner. 3. 3. Approaches to analyses of cytotoxic cells. And studies of their role in H. pylori infection

    Author : Josef Azem; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : Helicobacter pylori; mucosal immunology; stomach; duodenum; asymptomatic; duodenal ulcer; gastric adenocarcinoma; NK cells; T cells; B cells; dendritic cells; cytotoxic;

    Abstract : Helicobacter pylori infection causes chronic gastritis that may progress to peptic ulcers or gastric adenocarcinoma and thereby cause major world-wide health problems. Previous studies have shown that CD4+ T cells and the production of the cytokine IFN- × are important components of the immune response to H. pylori in humans. READ MORE

  4. 4. Dendritic cells in cancer immunotherapy

    Author : Karin Gustafsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : vaccines; dendritic cells; αDC1; PGE2DC; natural killer cells; T cells;

    Abstract : Dendritic cells (DCs) play a central role in the initiation and regulation of innate and adaptive immune responses and have increasingly been applied as vaccines for cancer patients. Ex vivo generation and antigen loading of monocyte-derived DCs allows a controlled maturation, with the aim of imprinting different DC functions that are essential for their subsequent induction of a T cell-mediated anti-tumor response. 5. 5. Human dendritic cells : a study of early events during pathogen recognition and antigen endocytosis

    Author : Peter Hellman; Malmö högskola; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; dendritic cells; zeolites;

    Abstract : The mononuclear phagocyte cell system includes monocytes, macrophages anddendritic cells which are important cells in order to recognize, ingest, destroyand also present part of a pathogen to T-lymphocytes in order to activate theadaptive immune system. Dendritic cells (DCs) stand out in their ability tostimulate T-lymphocytes and are also believed to be important to keeptolerance for “self-antigens”. READ MORE
