  1. 1. Role of calcitonin gene-related peptide in nociception : interactions with substance P and opioids

    Author : Long-Chuan Yu; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Calcitonin gene-related peptide CGRP ; CGRP8-37; CGRP-like immunoreactivity; carrageenan; dorsal horn; dorsal root ganglion DRG ; experimentally-induced inflammtion ß-funaltrexamine ß-FNA ; hindpaw withdrawl latency HWL ; hot-plate test; ;

    Abstract : This thesis presents a study of calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) and its antagonist CGRP8-37 and the interactions with substance P and opioids on the transmission of presumed nociceptive information at the spinal cord level in the rat. Significant bilateral increases in hindpaw withdrawal latency (HWL) to heat and mechanical stimulation were induced dose-dependently by intrathecal administration of 5 or 10 but no 1 nmol of CGRP8-37. 2. 2. Contributions of calcitonin gene-related peptide in ischemia, inflammation and nociception

    Author : Gunilla Brodda Jansen; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : 5-hydroxytryptamine; acupuncture; blood flow; calcitonin gene-related pep- tide; edema formation; histamine; inflammation; ischemia; mast cells; neuropeptides; neutrophils; nociception; sensory stimulation; substance P; surgical flaps; withdrawal res;

    Abstract : The sensory neuropeptide Calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) is a very potent vasodilator with a wide distribution in peripheral sensory nerves, often co-stored with substance P. In the present study, the effects of CGRP in different models of ischemia, inflammation and nociception were examined. READ MORE

  3. 3. Calcitonin gene-related peptide in temporomandibular inflammation

    Author : Joakim Carleson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : CGRP; Calcitonin gene-related peptide; neuropeptides; inflammation; temporomandibular joint; masseter muscle; TMJ; TMD; nociception; scratching; neurogenic inflammation.;

    Abstract : Calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) is an important biological mediator and cell-signalling molecule, involved in modulation of the immune system, inflammatory response and pain modulation. During pain and inflammation, sensory nerves are activated, and sensory neuropeptides such as CGRP is released from peripheral and central nerve endings. READ MORE

  4. 4. Regulation of CGRP expression in rat spinal motoneurons

    Author : Fredrik Piehl; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : immunohistochemistry; in situ hybridization; motoneuron; axotomy; peptides; CGRP; trophic factor; FGF; IGF; BDNF; CNTF; GAP-43; cell culture; plasticity; mRNAregulation; regeneration;

    Abstract : The normal distribution and lesion-induced changes in the expression of neuropeptides and growth-related proteins, with special reference to calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP),were studied in the motor system of the rat. In addition, factors that influence the expression of CGRP in motoneurons were identified. READ MORE
