11. Evaluating Swedish seaweeds for biorefinery
Abstract : A sustainable future demands a transition from oil to biomass to produce fuels, chemicals, commodities, and energy. However, to generate the predicted amount of bioenergy required by 2050, all the biomass harvested today should be utilized. One type of biomass that has received relatively little attention is seaweeds. READ MORE

12. Dietary fibre production from oat hulls
Abstract : The current threats of climate change connected to the unsustainable consumption of fossil resources paired with an increasing world population demands the exploration of alternative raw materials for the production of food, fuel and specialty chemicals. Agricultural waste streams present suitable sources due to their availability in large quantities at low costs without competing with current food production. READ MORE

13. Chemical composition and machinability of selected wood species from Mozambique
Abstract : The objectives of the current work were to carry out a survey on timber sector in Mozambique and to determine chemical, calorific and machinability features of selected species. Mozambican timber sector was described as dominated by selective harvesting practices on a few hardwood species out of 118 species growing in the forest with potential for industrial timber. 14. Influence of acid hydrogen peroxide treatment on refining energy and TMP properties
Abstract : The potential of using acid hydrogen peroxide under Fenton conditions to lower the electrical energy consumed during the production of Black spruce (Picea mariana) thermomechanical pulp (TMP) was investigated. The chemical system, which consisted of ferrous sulphate, hydrogen peroxide and optionally an enhancer (3,4-dimethoxybenzyl alcohol, ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid or oxalic acid/sodium oxalate), was evaluated as an inter-stage treatment where the primary refiner was used as a mixer. 15. Kraft Pulp Fibre Surfaces. Chemical Composition and Effect on Pulp Bleachability
Abstract : The work presented in this thesis concerns studies of kraft fibre surfaces in respect of chemical composition and effect on pulp bleachability. Kraft fibre surfaces were studied by mechanical peeling using a disintegrator operated at 20.000-200.000 revolutions and a pulp consistency of 3% or 4. READ MORE
