  1. 6. Studies on bone and mineral disorders in CKD : determinants and survival implications

    Author : Ting Jia; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Disruptions in mineral metabolism occur already at an early stage of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and may eventually lead to a complex of CKD - mineral and bone disorders (CKD-MBD) characterized by alterations of the mass, turnover rate, mineralization and strength of bones, and high risk of vascular calcification, fractures and other complications resulting in worse survival. The aim of this thesis was to increase the understanding of some aspects of CKD-MBD with special emphasis on clinical and laboratory determinants and implications for clinical outcome. READ MORE

  2. 7. The role of circulating biomarkers, genetics, and diet in kidney function

    Author : Christina-Alexandra Schulz; Diabetes - kardiovaskulär sjukdom; []
    Keywords : biomarker; Chronic kidney disease CKD ; Diet;

    Abstract : Today, between 8% and 16% of all individuals worldwide suffer from chronic kidney disease (CKD), which is becoming a growing public health issue. Creatinine and cystatin C are commonly used markers for kidney function, and estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) and albuminuria are used to stage CKD. READ MORE

  3. 8. Liver-related complications and metabolic comorbidities during long-term follow-up of patients with Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease

    Abstract : Background: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is highly associated with the metabolic syndrome, and due to increasing prevalence of for example obesity it is now the most common liver disease in the world. A minority progress to advanced fibrosis/cirrhosis, which is associated with increased mortality, but it is not entirely clear which patients who have an increased risk of fibrosis. READ MORE
