  1. 1. Quantum Chaos and Dissipation in Finite Fermi Systems

    Author : Sergiy Radionov; Matematisk fysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; statistical physics; gravitation; relativity; Mathematical and general theoretical physics; classical mechanics; quantum mechanics; Dissipation; Quantum Chaos; Collective motion; thermodynamics; Matematisk och allmän teoretisk fysik; klassisk mekanik; kvantmekanik; relativitet; statistisk fysik; termodynamik;

    Abstract : We address the problem of the dissipative character of collective motion in finite Fermi systems. We study this problem from the point of view of chaotic features of the fermionic degrees of freedom of the many-body Fermi systems. READ MORE

  2. 2. Comparisons between classical and quantum mechanical nonlinear lattice models

    Author : Peter Jason; Magnus Johansson; Jonas Larson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Discrete Breathers; Bose-Einstein-Condensation; Instabilities; Oscillatory Instabilities; Classical-Quantum correspondence; Bose-Hubbard model; DNLS; discrete nonlinear Schrödinger equation; nonlinear; nonlinear lattice models; compacton;

    Abstract : In the mid-1920s, the great Albert Einstein proposed that at extremely low temperatures, a gas of bosonic particles will enter a new phase where a large fraction of them occupy the same quantum state. This state would bring many of the peculiar features of quantum mechanics, previously reserved for small samples consisting only of a few atoms or molecules, up to a macroscopic scale. READ MORE

  3. 3. Electron Transport and Chaos in Model Mesoscopic Systems

    Author : Thomas Ouchterlony; Hongqi Xu; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : In this thesis mesoscopic structures intermediate in size between classical macroscopic objects and quantum mechanical objects as atoms are treated. The size of mesoscopic systems are of the same order as the wavelength of the electrons, which makes it necessary to take quantum mechanics into account. READ MORE

  4. 4. Dynamic properties of two-dimensional and quasi-geostrophic turbulence

    Author : Andreas Vallgren; Erik Lindborg; Guido Boffetta; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; two-dimensional turbulence; decaying turbulence; quasi-geostrophic turbulence; direct numerical simulation DNS ; coherent vortices; energy cascade; enstrophy cascade; intermittency; massively parallel simulations; locality iii; Non-linear dynamics; chaos; Icke-linjär dynamik; kaos;

    Abstract : Two codes have been developed and implemented for use on massively parallelsuper computers to simulate two-dimensional and quasi-geostrophic turbulence.The codes have been found to scale well with increasing resolution and width ofthe simulations. READ MORE

    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; plasma waves and instabilities; nonlinear phenomena; solitons and solitary waves; ionosphere; Sun: corona; incoherent scatter radar; MHD; plasmavågor och instabiliteter; ickelinjära fenomen; solitoner och solitära vågor; jonosfär; solen: korona; inkoherent spridningsradar; MHD; Geocosmophysics and plasma physics; Geokosmofysik och plasmafysik; Space physics; Rymdfysik; Plasma physics; Plasmafysik; Non-linear dynamics; chaos; Icke-linjär dynamik; kaos; fysik; Physics; rymd- och plasmafysik; Space and Plasma Physics;

    Abstract : This thesis addresses solitary waves and their significance for auroral particle acceleration, coronal heating and incoherent scatter radar spectra. Solitary waves are formed due to a balance of nonlinear and dispersive effects. READ MORE
