1. Traffic Safety Potential and Effectiveness of Lane Keeping Support
Abstract : In the road transport system, crashes due to lane departure account for a large proportion of the most severe crashes that passenger car occupants are exposed to. While Electronic Stability Control (ESC) effectively prevents lane departure due to loss of control, lane departure due to unintentional drifting has not been addressed to the same extent. READ MORE

2. Genetic regulation of autoimmunity in experimental neuroinflammation
Abstract : Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic inflammatory disease that affects the central nervous system causing axonal demyelination and leads to significant disabilities. MS affects mainly young adults and incidence of disease in Sweden is around 600 new cases/year. READ MORE

3. HIV target cells and innate immune factors in the human female genital tract
Abstract : World-wide, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) transmission most often takes place in the genital tract during heterosexual intercourse, but the site where HIV most commonly establishes primary infection in the female genital tract remains unknown. Several factors including viral load in the HIV-infected individual, presence of genital infections, genotype and possibly sex hormone levels influence the risk of HIV acquisition. READ MORE

4. Immunological mechanisms regulating neuroinflammation : a role for C-type lectin receptors and vitamin D
Abstract : Autoimmunity of the central nervous system (CNS) such as in Multiple Sclerosis (MS) or its animal model Experimental Autoimmune Encephalomyelitis (EAE) requires the activation of self-reactive immune cells and the presentation of self-antigen by mature antigen presenting cells (APCs). In this thesis I have studied genetic and environmental mechanisms affecting APCs and CD4+ T cells which regulate susceptibility to EAE induced with myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein (MOG) in the rat.
