  1. 11. Automatic segmentation in CMR - Development and validation of algorithms for left ventricular function, myocardium at risk and myocardial infarction

    Author : Jane Tufvesson; Lund Klinisk fysiologi; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Automatic segmentation; cardiovascular magnetic resonance; validation; Expectation Maximization; freely available software; myocardial infarction;

    Abstract : In this thesis four new algorithms are presented for automatic segmentation in cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR); automatic segmentation of the left ventricle, myocardial infarction, and myocardium at risk in two different image types. All four algorithms were implemented in freely available software for image analysis and were validated against reference delineations with a low bias and high regional agreement. READ MORE

  2. 12. Pulmonary hypertension and heart failure : physiological markers assessed by cardiovascular magnetic resonance

    Author : João Ramos; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is clinically and physiologically associated with heart failure, both with reduced and preserved ejection fraction (HFrEF and HFpEF). In HFpEF, the most likely underlying pathophysiological mechanism is an impairment of left ventricular relaxation named diastolic dysfunction. READ MORE

  3. 13. On Mathematical Reasoning : being told or finding out

    Author : Mathias Norqvist; Johan Lithner; Bert Jonsson; Catarina Rudälv; Kristina Juter; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; mathematics education; creative reasoning; reasoning; cognitive proficiency; fMRI; didactics of mathematics; matematikdidaktik;

    Abstract : School-mathematics has been shown to mainly comprise rote-learning of procedures where the considerations of intrinsic mathematical properties are scarce. At the same time theories and syllabi emphasize competencies like problem solving and reasoning. READ MORE

  4. 14. On the assessment of right ventricular function using cardiac magnetic resonance imaging and echocardiography

    Author : Stina Jorstig; Per Thunberg; Kent Emilsson; Mats Lidén; Micael Waldenborg; Einar Heiberg; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; right ventricle; stroke volume; ejection fraction; cardiac magnetic resonance; ehocardiography; Kirurgi; Surgery;

    Abstract : Transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) and cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging are two commonly used imaging modalities for evaluating the size and function of the heart. There are advantages and disadvantages associated with both modalities when examining the right ventricle (RV). READ MORE

  5. 15. Cardiovascular magnetic resonance evaluation of effusive and constrictive physiologies

    Author : Simon Olof Anders Thalén; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : This thesis presents an exploration of cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) in the evaluation of effusive and constrictive heart conditions. Central to the thesis is advanced CMR as a diagnostic tool in pericardial effusion and constrictive pericarditis. READ MORE
