1. Perspectives on bioenergy futures - International bioenergy trade and bioenergy expansion in a European policy context
Abstract : Biomass can be used to substitute the use of fossil fuels in the energy system. Presently, the use of biomass is being promoted in Sweden and the rest of the EU by targets and policies. READ MORE

2. Approaches to scale-up CO2 emissions reduction in the energy supply sector in developing countries
Abstract : This thesis, which consists of five papers, addresses two themes related to the need for a scale-up of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction in the energy sector in developing countries: (1) approaches to support developing countries in scaling-up emissions reduction, and (2) an approach to scale-up emissions reduction --cultivation of fuel wood to replace fossil fuels in electricity generation. In the first paper, the potential volume of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions reduction and reduction credits in the electricity sector under a sectoral crediting mechanism based on a sectoral no-lose, non-binding, target in the post-2012 period is assessed for seven high-emitting developing countries by means of different scenarios. 3. All CO2 molecules are equal, but some CO2 molecules are more equal than others
Abstract : This thesis deals with some challenges related to the mitigation of climate change and the overall aim is to present and assess different possibilities for the mitigation of climate change by: • Suggesting some measures with a potential to abate net greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, • Discussing ideas for how decision-makers could tackle some of the encountered obstacles linked to these measures, and • Pointing at some problems with the current Kyoto framework and suggesting modifications of it. The quantification of the net CO2 effect from a specific project, frequently referred to as emissions accounting, is an important tool to evaluate projects and strategies for mitigating climate change. 4. Perspectives on future bioenergy use and trade in a European policy context
Abstract : This thesis, which consists of five separate papers, analyses the possibilities for increasing the use and trade of bioenergy, in a European policy context. In Paper I we investigate whether different policy objectives underlying the promotion of bioenergy (cost-effective climate change mitigation, reduced dependency on imported fuels, and job creation) agree on which bioenergy options should be used. 5. Catalytic Steam Pyrolysis of Biomass for Production of Liquid Feedstock
Abstract : The current societal needs for fuels and chemical commodities strongly depend on fossil resources. This dependence can lead to economic instabilities, political problems and insecurity of supplies. READ MORE
