  1. 1. Performance and availability trade-offs in fault-tolerant middleware

    Author : Diana Szentiványi; Simin Nadjm-Tehrani; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Programming; Distributed systems; fault tolerance; middleware; COBRA; code supporting; Computer science; Datavetenskap;

    Abstract : Distributing functionality of an application is in common use. Systems that are built with this feature in mind also have to provide high levels of dependability. One way of assuring availability of services is to tolerate faults in the system, thereby avoiding failures. Building distributed applications is not an easy task. READ MORE

    Abstract : Today’s software engineering and application development trend is to take advantage of reusable software. Much effort is directed towards easing the task of developing complex, distributed, network based applications with reusable components. To ease the task of the distributed systems’ developers, one can use middleware, i.e. READ MORE

  4. 4. Dangerous Liaisons : Why Ex-Combatants Return to Violence. Cases from the Republic of Congo and Sierra Leone

    Abstract : After disarming and demobilizing, why do some ex-combatants re-engage in organized vio-lence, while others do not? Even though former fighters have been identified as a major source of insecurity in post-civil war societies due to their military know-how, there have been few efforts to systematically examine this puzzle. This study fills this research gap by comparing the presence or absence of organized violence in different ex-combatant communi-ties – all the former fighters that used to belong to the same armed faction and who share a common, horizontal identity based on shared war-and peacetime experiences. 5. 5. Acute inflammation in peritoneal dialysis. Experimental studies in rats. Characterization of regulatory mechanisms

    Author : Farhan Bazargani; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The predominant problems associated with peritoneal dialysis (PD) are ultrafiltration failure and peritonitis. PD maintains a state of intraperitoneal inflammation that affects the structure and function of the peritoneal membrane, potentially impairing ultrafiltration efficiency. READ MORE
