  1. 1. From Penicillin Binding Proteins to Community Interventions : Mathematical and Statistical Models Related to Antibiotic Resistance

    Author : Patricia Geli Rolfhamre; Åke Svensson; Mikael Andersson; Dan I. Andersson; Karl Ekdahl; Bruce R. Levin; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; antibiotic resistance; mathematical modeling; pharmacokinetics; pharmacodynamics; penicillin binding protein; postantibiotic effect; reversibility; selection; community intervention; Mathematical statistics; Matematisk statistik; matematisk statistik; Mathematical Statistics;

    Abstract : Antibiotic resistance has become a major public health concern and mathematical models are important analytical tools for the understanding, evaluation and prediction of the resistance problem and related control strategies.The risk of emerging antibiotic resistance and selection has rarely been a concern in the design of antibiotic drug dosing regimens. 2. 2. Impacts of Regional Climate Change on Swedish Forests: An Evaluation Using Process-based Regional Ecosystem Modelling Approach

    Author : Deniz Koca; Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; fysisk geografi; Geologi; Geology; physical geography; Sweden; forest management; diversity; carbon sequestration; net primary productivity; regional climate change; process-based regional ecosystem modelling;

    Abstract : The overall aim of this thesis was to provide a representative estimate of the potential impacts of climate change and increased atmospheric CO2 concentrations on Swedish forest ecosystems and the key ecosystem services they provide. In order to achieve this task, fi rst LPJ-GUESS, a process-based regional ecosystem modelling framework, was applied to explore how possible shifts in climatic zones according to a range of regional climate scenarios may lead to changes in the tree species distribution and composition, net primary productivity (NPP) and carbon sequestration capacity of potential natural ecosystems on species level and at the regional scale. 3. 3. Pesticides in coastal Tanzania : Management, policy and concerns for human health and the environment

    Author : Nadja Stadlinger; Linda Kumblad; Anders Sjögren; Nils Kautsky; Kees Jansen; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; sub-Saharan Africa; agrochemicals; legislation; farmer education; hazards; subsidies; marin ekotoxikologi; Marine Ecotoxicology;

    Abstract : This thesis is the first major assessment of pesticide management in Zanzibar, Tanzania. It underlines the risks for human health and the environment that are likely under the current pesticide management regime. READ MORE

  4. 4. Ownership-Based Alias Managemant

    Author : Tobias Wrigstad; Love Ekenberg; Arnd Poetzsch-Heffter; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Computer and systems science; Data- och systemvetenskap;

    Abstract : Object-oriented programming relies on sharing and the mutable states of objects for common data structures, patterns and programming idioms. Sharing and mutable state is a powerful but dangerous combination. READ MORE

  5. 5. A collaborative approach to usability engineering : technical communicators and system developers in usability-oriented systems development

    Author : Pär Carlshamre; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : For the last 20 years, the human-computer interaction research community has provided a multitude of methods and techniques intended to support the development of usable systems, but the impact on industrial software development has been limited. One of the reasons for this limited success is argued to be the gap between traditional academic theory generation and industrial practice. READ MORE
