1. Aβ Conformation Dependent Antibodies and Alzheimer's Disease
Abstract : Soluble intermediates of the amyloid-β (Aβ) aggregation process are suggested to play a central role in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) by causing synaptic dysfunction and neuronal loss. In this thesis, soluble Aβ aggregates have been studied with a particular focus on the Aβ protofibril, which has served as the antigen for developing conformation dependent monoclonal antibodies. 2. Polyelectrolyte adsorption on oppositely charged surfaces - Conformation and adsorption kinetics
3. Singlet Fission - The Effects of Solvent Polarity and Conformation
Abstract : Singlet fission (SF) is a process in which one initial high energy singlet excited state is converted into two triplet excited states of roughly half the energy of the initial state. This process has the potential to increase the efficiency of conventional solar cells by modifying the energy of the incident solar radiation to better match the energy input required to generate electricity. 4. Properties of stabilizers in colloidal dispersions
Abstract : Surfactants and polymers are frequently used as stabilizers in colloidal dispersions. Depending on their solubility and the interactions in their local environment, their tendency to remain adsorbed on a surface will differ. READ MORE

5. Prediction of 3D structures of oligosaccharides. Methodological development and studies on saccharide antigens of interest for vaccine design
Abstract : This thesis presents 3D structure predictions of five immunologically active surfacepolysaccharides of pathogens, which are of interest as targets for development of glycoconjugatevaccines. Furthermore it describes two methods which have been used for theconformational predictionsThe Shigella dysenteriae type 2 Oantigenwas predicted to form a compact helicalstructure with three repeating pentasaccharide units per turn.
