  1. 1. Regulation of Angiogenesis

    Author : Helena Larsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetics; angiogenesis; anti-angiogenesis; endostatin; latent antithrombin; prelatent antithrombin; Crk; Genetik; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik; Pathology; patologi;

    Abstract : Angiogenesis is the formation of new blood vessels from pre-existing ones. New blood vessel formation is fundamental in processes such as reproduction, embryonic development and wound healing. Growth of neoplasms is accompanied by increased angiogenesis. This thesis describes cellular and molecular mechanisms of importance for angiogenesis. READ MORE

  2. 2. Molecular Genetic Studies of Ph-positive Leukemias and the BCR and ABL Genes

    Author : Thoas Fioretos; Avdelningen för klinisk genetik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; CRKL; CRK; ABL; BCR; acute lymphoid leukemia; chronic myeloid leukemia; Philadelphia chromosome; Molecular Genetics; Cytogenetics; IFN-alfa; Haematology; extracellular fluids; Hematologi; extracellulära vätskor;

    Abstract : In the present thesis molecular genetic methods were used to address different biological and clinical aspects of Philadelphia (Ph) chromosome-positive leukemias and the BCR and ABL genes. In the first study, children with Ph-positive chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) were found to have essentially the same breakpoint locations in BCR as adults, a pattern which differs from the one seen in Ph-positive acute lymphoid leukemia (ALL). 3. 3. Stem Cell Factor Induced Signal Transduction

    Author : Johan Lennartsson; Christer Larsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Oncology; Onkologi; Oncology; Onkologi; molekylär cellbiologi; Molecular Cellbiology;

    Abstract : Stem Cell Factor (SCF) can function as a survival factor, a mitogen or a chemoattractant depending on cell type. Binding of SCF to c-Kit induces dimerization and subsequent autophosphorylation of the receptor. This thesis describes the intracellular signal transduction elicited by c-Kit. READ MORE

  4. 4. Biochemical and Structural Studies on the Adaptor Protein p130Cas

    Author : Fariborz Nasertorabi; Kathryn R Ely; Lars Liljas; Jyrki Heino; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cell and molecular biology; Integrin signaling; p130Cas; X-ray Crystallography; NMR Spectroscopy; Protein phosphorylation; BCAR-1; Cell- och molekylärbiologi; Cell and molecular biology; Cell- och molekylärbiologi;

    Abstract : Crk associated substrate (Cas) is an adaptor protein that becomes phosphorylated upon integrin signaling and influences regulation of cell processes such as migration, proliferation and survival. It consists of multiple domains and regions that can interact with several signaling proteins involved in different signaling pathways. READ MORE

  5. 5. Effects of invasin and YopH of Yersinia pseudotuberculosis on host cell signaling

    Author : Anna Gustavsson; Maria Fällman; Arnoud Sonnenberg; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Molecular biology; β1-integrin; Yersinia pseudotuberculosis; Invasin; YopH; Cell-Matrix Adhesion; Filopodia; Cell Spreading; Molekylärbiologi; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Abstract : Integrins are a large family of membrane-spanning heterodimeric (αβ) receptors that bind to ligands on other cells or to extracellular matrix (ECM) proteins. These receptors mediate bidirectional signaling over the cell membrane to induce signaling cascades mediating functions as cell adhesion, spreading and migration. READ MORE
