  1. 16. Resonant Inelastic X-ray Scattering Studies on Quasi-Two-Dimensional Superconducting Materials

    Author : Deepak John Mukkattukavil; Jan-Erik Rubensson; Marcus Agåker; Yasmine Sassa; Conny Såthe; Balasubramanian Thiagarajan; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Resonant inelastic x-ray scattering; Superconductivity; Crystal; Magnon; Phonon; Physics with spec. in Atomic; Molecular and Condensed Matter Physics; Fysik med inriktning mot atom- molekyl- och kondenserande materiens fysik;

    Abstract : Unconventional superconductivity is one of the many fascinating research areas of condensed matter physics. Understanding the superconducting pairing mechanism and its connection with other competing states remains unclear. READ MORE

  2. 17. Optical Characterization and Optimization of Display Components : Some Applications to Liquid-Crystal-Based and Electrochromics-Based Devices

    Author : Iryna Valyukh; Claes-Göran Granqvist; Ewa Wäckelgård; Hans Arwin; Ola Hundery; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ellipsometry; liquid crystal; LCD; optical anizotropy; electrochromic; inverse problems; Optics; Optik; Optical physics; Optisk fysik; Numerical analysis; Numerisk analys; Solid State Physics; fasta tillståndets fysik; Information Systems; data- och systemvetenskap;

    Abstract : This dissertation is focused on theoretical and experimental studies of optical properties of materials and multilayer structures composing liquid crystal displays (LCDs) and electrochromic (EC) devices. By applying spectroscopic ellipsometry, we have determined the optical constants of thin films of electrochromic tungsten oxide (WOx) and nickel oxide (NiOy), the films’ thickness and roughness. 3. 18. Theory of Crystal Fields and Magnetism of f-electron Systems

    Author : Massimiliano Colarieti Tosti; Olle Eriksson; Walter Temmerman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Theoretical physics; Crystal Field; Magnetism; Electronic Structure; Teoretisk fysik; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : A parameter free approach for the calculation of the crystal field splitting of the lowest Russel-Saunders J-multiplet in f-electron systems has been developed and applied to selected compounds. The developed theory is applicable to general symmetries and is based on symmetry constrained density functional theory calculations in the local density or in the generalised gradient approximation. 4. 19. Dissolution of fluorite type surfaces as analogues of spent nuclear fuel : Production of suitable analogues and study the effect of surface orientation on dissolution

    Author : Jose Godinho; Sandra Piazolo; Tonci Balic-Zunic; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; fluorite; spent nuclear fuel; crystal structure; CeO2; CaF2; crystal orientation; topography; confocal profilometry; Mineralogy; Mineralvetenskap; Geology; geologi;

    Abstract : It is accepted worldwide that the best final solution for spent nuclear fuel is to bury it in deep geological repositories. Despite the physical and chemical barriers that are supposed to isolate the nuclear waste for at least 100.000 years, some uncertainty factors may cause underground water to get in contact with the nuclear waste. 5. 20. Nematic Liquid Crystal Spatial Light Modulators for Laser Beam Steering

    Author : Emil Hällstig; Mikael Lindgren; Lars Sjöqvist; William Crossland; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physics; spatial light modulator; liquid crystal; beam steering; tracking; phase modulation; fringing field; director distribution; finite-difference time-domain; polarization; temporal properties; Fysik; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : Laser beam control is important in many applications. Phase modulating spatial light modulators (SLMs) can be used to electronically alter the phase distribution of an optical wave-front and thus change the direction and shape of a laser beam. READ MORE
