  1. 1. Signaling to the immature brain - Choroid plexus, insulin-like growth factor 1 and extracellular vesicles

    Author : Niklas Ortenlöf; Lund Pediatrik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; IGF-1; Choroid plexus; Immature brain; Extracellular vesicle; CSF; Preterm infants;

    Abstract : Extremely preterm infants (i.e., born below 28 gestational weeks), are at high risk of developing brain morbidities including intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH) and neurodevelopmental impairment. Despite over 50 years of research, there is currently no effective therapy available for preventing IVH. READ MORE

  2. 2. Adult hydrocephalus. Intracranial pressure, B-wave and clinical analysis in patients with noncommunicating and communicating hydrocephalus

    Author : Hannes Stephensen; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : CSF circulation; hydrocephalus; NPH; communicating hydrocephalus; noncommunicating hydrocephalus; aqueduct stenosis; intracranial pressure; B-waves; transmantle pressure gradient; computerised data acquisition; clinical symptoms.;

    Abstract : Aims of present investigations. Adult patients with clinical and radiological findings consistent with normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH) were studied. READ MORE

  3. 3. Endothelin and nitric oxide in the fetoplacental circulation

    Author : Anna Sand; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Fetoplacental circulation; placental arteries; endothelin-1; nitric oxide; potassium channels; M-CSF; endothelin receptors; BKCa; ETA; ETB;

    Abstract : Background: Normal fetal growth and development depend on a satisfactory uteroplacental and fetoplacental blood flow. This will ensure an adequate gaseous exchange and nutritional supply to the fetus. READ MORE

  4. 4. Immunotherapy with the anti-EpCAM monoclonal antibody and cytokines in patients with colorectal cancer : a clinical and experimental study

    Author : Maria Gustafsson Liljefors; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Colorectal carcinoma; monoclonal antibodies; GM-CSF; pharmacokinetics; prognosis; bone marrow micrometastases; cytokeratin-positive cells; Colorectal carcinoma;

    Abstract : The tumor-associated antigen EpCAM (epithelial cell-adhesion molecule) (C017-1A) is over expressed by various human carcinomas, including colorectal carcinoma (CRC). This antigen can be used as a target structure for specific immunotherapy with vaccines and monoclonal antibodies (MAb). READ MORE

  5. 5. On the possible use of oxysterols for the diagnosis and evaluation of patients with neurological and neurodegenerative diseases

    Author : Valerio Leoni; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Multiple sclerosis; Alzheimer s disease; oxysterol; central nervous system; gas chromatography-mass spectrometry; blood brain barrier; cholesterol;

    Abstract : Oxysterols are monooxygenated derivatives of cholesterol with a unique ability to pass lipophilic membranes and are involved in a number of elimination pathways for cholesterol. One of the major oxysterols in the circulation, 24S-hydroxycholesterol, is formed exclusively in the brain, mainly in neuronal cells. READ MORE
