    Abstract : In the production of paper, the quality of the pulp is an important factor both for the productivity and for the final quality. Reliable real-time measurements of pulp quality are therefore needed. READ MORE

  2. 7. Neurotoxicity of β-lactam antibiotics : experimental kinetic and neurophysiological studies

    Author : Silvia E. Schliamser; Ragnar Norrby; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; benzylpenicillin; blood-brain barrier; ß-lactam antibiotics; CSF; CNS; EEG; imipenem cilastatin; FCE 22101; meningitis; neurotoxicity of; silent-second; thiopental; transport system; uraemia;

    Abstract : The neurotoxic potential of intravenous administered benzylpenicillin (BPC) was studied in rabbits with intact blood-CNS barriers and rabbits with experimental E. coli meningitis. At onset of epileptogenic EEG activity or seizures, serum, CSF and brain tissue were collected for assay of BPC. READ MORE

  3. 8. Increasing the interpretability of Alzheimer-related biomarkers: cell- and cerebrospinal fluid-based studies with focus on neurogranin

    Abstract : Biomarkers for Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a growing field of research. A particularly vibrant field during recent years has been biomarkers for synaptic dysfunction. READ MORE

  4. 9. Assessment of experimental neurotrauma

    Author : Ying-Lai Huang; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Impulse noise; diffuse brain injury; focal brain injury; closed head injury; NSE; S-100; GFAP; apoptosis; astrocytosis; glutamate; c-JUN; rotational acceleration; CSF;

    Abstract : Model systems of closed head injury are designed to replicate aspects of traumatic brain injury, ischemia and epilepsy in man. The aim of this thesis was to (1) develop sensitive systems enabling analyses of the biochemical reactions, as reflected by leakage of marker compounds to the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF); and (2) develop and assess a new model for closed head injury and associated dynamic changes in the brain cell. Abstract : Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Charcot’s disease, motor neuron disease (MND) and Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a deadly, adult-onset neurodegenerative disorder characterized by progressive loss of upper and lower motor neurons, resulting in evolving paresis of the linked muscles. ALS is defined by classical features of the disease, but may present as a wide spectrum of phenotypes. READ MORE
