  1. 1. Studies on glucagon secretion in patients with type 1 diabetes : clinical and experimental studies

    Author : Per Oskarsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : C-peptide; CSII; CIPII; gluacon; insulin infusion test; severe hypoglycaemia; type 1 diabetes;

    Abstract : Hypoglycaernia is the main limiting factor reaching normo-glycaemia in type I diabetic patients. The risk of hypoglycaemia increases usually with improvements in metabolic control. The annual prevalence of severe episodes of hypoglycaemia in intensively treated patients is reported to be in the range 20-80%. READ MORE

  2. 2. Self-management of diabetes in adolescents using insulin pumps

    Author : Anna Lindholm Olinder; Bibbi Smide; Kerstin Ternulf Nyhlin; Karin Wikblad; Anna Kernell; Marit Graue; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Type 1 diabetes; Insulin infusion systems; Insulin omission; Adolescents; Adolescent parenting; Nursing; Qualitative research; Interviews; Caring sciences; Vårdvetenskap; Diabetology; Diabetologi; Paediatric medicine; Pediatrisk medicin; Caring Sciences; Vårdvetenskap;

    Abstract : Insulin pump treatment (CSII) is considered the most physiological way to imitate the healthy body’s insulin profile in adolescents with diabetes. However, despite the use of CSII, achieving the recommended disease control is difficult for adolescents. READ MORE

  3. 3. Diabetes during childhood and adolescence : studies of insulin treatment, patient-reported outcomes, and evaluation of an empowerment-based education

    Author : Anna Lena Brorsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska institutet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : There is a lack of studies demonstrating positive effects on glycaemic control and HRQoL in children and adolescents starting CSII treatment. Guidelines recommend measuring perceived HRQoL routinely. READ MORE

  4. 4. Clinical studies of glucose variability and hypoglycemia in adult patients with type 1 diabetes

    Author : Joakim Bragd; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Diabetes mellitus type 1 is a condition characterized by elevated blood glucose values due to impaired insulin production. This condition is associated with increased morbidity from micro- and macrovascular complications. Studies have shown that lowering blood glucose reduces the incidence of these complications. 5. 5. Insulin-like growth factor-I deficiency, insulin sensitivity, and glucose metabolism

    Author : Klas Ekström; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : In children and adolescents, growth hormone (GH) and insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I) act in concert to stimulate linear growth; however, the effects on glucose metabolism are in opposition. GH increases insulin resistance by lipolysis. READ MORE
