1. Inductively Coupled Plasma Atomic Emission Spectrometry : Exploring the Limits of Different Sample Preparation Strategies
Abstract : This thesis describes two different sample preparation strategies for inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES), and their ability regarding multi element quantification in complex samples. Sensitivity, repeatability, reproducibility and accuracy were investigated. READ MORE

2. Exploring the Magnetism of Ultra Thin 3d Transition Metal Films
Abstract : In this thesis the magnetic and structural properties of ultra-thin 3d transition metals films have been investigated, in particular Fe, Ni and Co films. X-ray Magnetic Circular Dichroism (XMCD) has provided element specific spin (ms ) and orbital (ml ) moments per atom by utilizing the magneto optic sum-rules. READ MORE

3. Study of MgB2 and YBa2Cu3O7-x Microbolometers for THz Sensing Applications
Abstract : In this thesis, two novel THz detectors based on magnesium diboride (MgB2)and yttrium barium copper oxide (YBa2Cu3O7-x) are presented. In particular,MgB2 superconductor is used for the investigation of hot-electron bolometer(HEB) mixers, while YBa2Cu3O7-x is explored in microbolometers for room-temperaturecoherent and incoherent detection. 4. Adsorption of Molecular Hydrogen on Cu, Pd and Ni Surfaces
Abstract : This thesis is devoted to spectroscopic studies of molecular hydrogen adsorbed on metal surfaces. Hydrogen is the simplest molecule available and is a very valuable model adsorbate. From a spectroscopic point of view there are also three easily accessible molecular isotopes, H2, HD and D2, with widely different masses. READ MORE

5. Management and Treatment of Organotin and Metal Contaminated Dredged Sediment
Abstract : Modern society is dependent on international trade and most traded goods are transported by sea. To enable this, regular dredging must be done to maintain water depth in ports and waterways, resulting in large quantities of often contaminated sediment that must be handled. READ MORE
